@Pichu: Well, it's basically this...
He nailed it. The more it advanced, the more I liked it. |

Also, most of the updates in Gen 3 were for competitive people. One of Hakurei's earlier posts kind of nailed what I mean. Haku being competitive, to quote, said: Actually it was Miral, but bugger me if I'm going to edit what I have already: "Natures, (actual) EV training, battle frontier, abilities, double battles. Just to name a few." Those updates are all for the competitive people. At best, Double Battles added a neat new thing for the casual gamer, at worst it was an annoyance. You could say Natures and abilities helped everyone, but I've personally never honestly cared and if I liked a pokemon I caught it and used it - regardless of its IVs, Nature, it's Ability or what EVs it was getting whilst I used it. I mean, I've nothign against Gen 3. Ruby and Sapphire were loads of fun for me! I'm just saying, to the competitive/in-depth/technical player, Gen 3 had many advancements... but to many other people the things added in Gen 3 were overlookable for the most part. |

I'm probably the guy that gives the least of a [radio edit] about competitive Pokemon, though. :U |

Well I never said people had to like a game because of the updates it brought. |

It depends on what definition of "competitive/technical/in-depth" we're talking here. I think what Ulta means by it is basically anyone above the level of "I'll just pick whatever pokemon I want, and use whatever random move I want in battle because it seems to work," without really caring about even basic mechanics like type matchups (besides obvious ones like water>fire) or how an ability might affect the battle. By that definition I am certainly competitive. The definition we mostly think of when it comes to that is the IV-breeding, chain-grooming and egg move-passing trainer with pokemon and movesets complementing to create a cohesive strategy type dude. I am aware of how these things work but cannot be bothered to worry about it too much, especially when just playing against the in-game trainers. By this definition I am not competitive. |

Given that I am a competitive battler, yeah, the additions made to make things easier on competitive battling mean a lot to me. Which is why I'm annoyed B/W made the EV-reducing berries inaccessible :U |

Yeah, basically. I don't much care for natures, but nowadays I'll at least be aware of my pokemon's abilities, and I use an element of strategy - I have a decently balanced team, and I'll use status effects(and one of my pokemon has screech) and moves like Calm Mind... but in the past I just said 'this mon is pretty, my team has a lot of attack moves, we're roughly level 45 or so, I'm stocked on revive and full restores, time to tackle the elite four' |

Unfortunately, yeah. Ironically, they also apparently made it so a Lv100 can now gain EVs. >_> Completely contradictory. Hopefully they'll release the berries in the Dream World later on or something. I hope. :U Although it still means it'll be a major pain to farm them. EDIT: @ Sveta |

I'll think a little about Natures in-game. I'm not gonna go using a Pokemon with a nature that hinders a key stat, like. Except my -Spd Hydreigon, because I was too lazy to get another +SpAtk one. And I regret it, because it got outsped by a few things it shouldn't have. :U |

You'll eventually be able to get the EV Berries in the Dream World, but from what I understand they haven't even been released in the Japanese Dream World yet. |

So someone care to tell me what EVs and IV breeding actually mean? /case closed. But no, I do like to have nice abilities and I want to use sensible moves in my battling. But like, if I get the wrong nature, I'm not gonna catch more Pokemon just to get that nature...unless it's a Feebas.
