I've liked every generation, but I am at the 4th gym in White and am looking to catch the croc pokemon to take out the 4th gym leader's pokemon. |

I always type-match I had a psychic-only party in Silver, but since then I've always enjoyed having a pokemon of as many strategic types as possible.Which is also the extent of my Pokemon strategy-ing. |

But the number of improvements from Gen 2 to Gen 3 was greater than those of Gen 1 to Gen 2. |

Now that I think of it, what are the improvements from gen 4 to 5? Triple battles so far feel gimmicky. As much as I didn't like gen 4 Pokemon designs, the Physical/Special attack split was already worth the admission price. Oh and wifi battles. Also I so far like gen 5. Not bashing it or anything. |

I'm talking about impact with the user-interface. I am not saying X gen is BETTER, I'm just comparing the reception based on the previous gen for each. Gen 2 builds off 1, Gen 3 builds off 2. Things that really DID NOT work well in Gen 1 (like the fsking BAG) were revamped in Gen 2. Hot-keys make their first appearance. Gendered pokemon. Breeding. Colour. etc. Gen 3 is a refinement of Gen 2 (and 4 of 3, and 5 of 4), which felt like an overhaul of Gen 1. Running shoes, EV-whatever-that-is, additional bike types, more hot-keys, double-battles, berry planting, another graphics bump, etc. In my opinion someone can go from Gen 5 back to Gen 2 and after the training stuff (that I've honestly never cared about), pokedex reduction, running shoe loss, and lack of touch-screen, a lot of things that people are used to will still be there. You can STILL breed, you can STILL use hot-keys, your bag is STILL organized, etc. Moving from Gen 1 back to Gen 2 (for me) was a pain in the ass and my blue cartridge never got any love after I bought Silver. If I hadn't lost Sapphire and Ruby I would probably still play them, because I still play Fire Red whenever I can actually find it. I don't see much difference between 3 and 4, I don't intend to get 5, and the only minor issues that I developed with Silver (NO RUNNING SHOES) were taken care of with Heart Gold and Soul Silver. So I play SS. |

You left out some of the most important additions, like natures and abilities. Gen 4's big change was that attacks actually make sense now - fire punch of physical, not special, for example. Another one was the introduction of the GTS - which was really good in theory. Too bad we only have a bunch of douchebags who want a celebi for a geodude. Gen 5's done a lot in terms of presentation from what I've seen, it's also supposedly made combat a lot more stremlined and lowered the tedium on various things quite a bit. However, without having played it, I cannot say what the major changes are... dream world may be one of its biggest things. They're supposedly refining GTS to get rid of the douchebaggery, but without having the game, you'll have to check with someone else about that. |

But again I'm talking about interface. Abilities and Natures have nothing to do with that. |

Yeah, you can like negotiate trades somehow via GTS now, the whole Dream World stuff, and the Entralink (though this one won't see much action in the States), Triple and Rotation Battles, much faster battles, those are the most noticeable things I can think of. Oh, and the more dynamic animations during battle. Edited by Crash, Mar 14 2011, 12:28 AM.

The original Gold/Silver/Crystal definitely had their own charms. Also many things taken for granted in the later gens all started in gen 2. Did you know Pokerus existed as early as gen 2? http://www.pokezam.com/games/gameboy/gold/pokerus.php |

If there's one thing that can be credited to HG/SS, it's being able to easily pass down IVs in breeding through the use of the Power Items... |

Didn't HG/SS also make it so that fathers could also pass down nature via Everstone, not just mothers? |

It was definitely before Black and White, but I don't remember if it was Diamond & Pearl, or Platinum, or HGSS where it started being possible. |

Whoa whoa whoa, I didn't know this one. Seriously? Err, does that mean if both mother and father are the same nature, the child can have a 100% chance of the nature being passed down? |

If they both held Everstones, perhaps, I've not heard of anyone trying. 50/50 chance is good enough anyway if you ask me. |
