Who else liked Ryu-Kou and Baghi? For non-adepts they were pretty cool, although RK kinda needed an attitude adjustment for most of the game. I was so sad when Baghi said good-bye on the cloud passage though, I was all like "COME WITH MEEE~!" 'cause he was kinda slow but in a good, cute kinda way. Any thoughts? |

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

Baghi was a bro. Ryu Kou less so, because he spent most of the game being an iin2ufferable priick, but he turned out alright in the end. |

I hate Ryo Kou. He was a jerk, and the disaster was pretty much his fault, IIRC. Baghi was a cool guy though. |

Ryou Kou is not that bad, actually apologized for being a jerk to you when you brought back his sister's bag from the ruins. Very protective of his sister, it can be argued that the whole eclipse was "his fault", but please excuse him for not having a player-perspective on the matter. He was just trying to free his sister, he had neither the knowledge for the consequences nor the intention to cause it. |

Didn't Ryu hear the whole "Thou Shalt Not Start the Dynamo" speech for Laurel? I actually don't remember if he was with you in Kolima or not when Pewter gives you the run-around. I think that was the only moment where I genuinely hated Ryu, 'cause I was all like "LET THE LITTLE BITCH DIE I KNOW IT SUCKS BUT HOLY CRAP THIS IS GONNA BE WORSE AND YOU- *apocalypse*" RK: But I had to save Hou-ju! Matt: *points to masses of DEAD PEOPLE and BURNING CITIES and more DEAD PEOPLE* RK: ![]() Baghi should've come with, I swear. I think I would have liked him more than Kraden, but not because lolTemple. But I would've liked him more. And if he'd been a PC he would've been the character who ran up to enemies with a giant rock or something in place of a real weapon. Like Wakka and his balls. *awaits BALLS joke* |

He wasn't with the party in Kolima, nope. The old guy (I forget his name) was a much more awesome character, what with trying to actually attack Alex and then defending Ryu Kuo and his sister from the eclipse monsters being his best moments. And yeah, Ryu Kou didn't know the eclipse would go down and he does later apologize, yeah, but most of the time when we see him he isn't really likable beyond his goal of saving his sister. I agree with Squee; Baghi was a total bro. |

Hou-Zan was awesome. And Baghi was indeed a bro. Didn't care much for Ryu-Kou, though I understood his motives. |

He was not with you in Kolima, but he does know. He doesn't know the specifics aside from Matthew's promising to Laurel. "It must not be activated" that's about all she said. What does that tell ANYONE about anything though? It does not tell them what it does, what it can do, and what it ultimately will do. She does not tell you ANYTHING about what would happen other than it is "bad", I do not consider that informed grounds to impede any actions. Ryou Kou was told by Arcanus that his sister would be saved from being BOILED ALIVE if he activate the alchemy dynamo. Given that his entire mission was to save his sister, should he, have ANY reason to listen to the EXTREMELY OBSCURE warning of a TREE? Bad way to characterize Laurel, but seriously, take things into perspective, he does not realize that the lives of his own family is a mere "detail" that the plot of the game he happen to be in can do without. Neither did he play TBS nor talk to Brigg about it, should he really care for what significance a tree has? He was introduced as a character with a particular mindset and a goal in mind, it's really unfair to blame him for what he does not know/cannot imagine just because it is something we, as players, could. But he DOES in fact respect Matthew's promise to Laurel. Based on how he acted in prior encounters, I'd say how he's acting on Talon peak was extremely out of character. Karis offered an explanation for that, this is what she said: "I know you want to save your sister, but you're making it sound like you just want to go off on your own. I think you know that we would all be overwhelmed by guilt if we broke our word to Laurel. So you decided to spare us the pain by taking the orb out of our hands." Ryou Kou denied that of course. You can interpret him as a jerkass there for that. But it seemed to me that he does have some idea on the weight of the promise seeing I can't make sense of his character at all otherwise. I think Karis' theory is well-worth considering. He wants to save his sister, who was going to be boiled alive. Has neither the knowledge, nor the mean to do so. I don't think it's that radical to say this situation would make him desperate(how much rationality and politeness are you expecting from someone like that anyway?), possibly enough to blindly trust Arcanus, the ONLY PERSON who offered him a solution on rescuing his sister. He wasn't told by ANY ONE of the consequences of doing what he did other than obscure negative treetalk. He obviously saw the results of his actions afterward and came to regretted it deeply. Don't you think he's suffered enough already, give him a break, I mean even if he didn't do it, you don't think the Tuaparang would find some way to get it done anyway? Do you really think godmodder Arcanus needed someone like him to do it? Some dialogues from after the event: Kraden: "You three don't appear to be Adepts. In the disaster I fear, you would likely not survive." Ryu Kou: "Be that as it may, I've decided to follow Matthew through any danger to repay him for his help." and later on Ryu Kou: "We didn't ask for your help, but you gave it, regardless. I thank you with all my heart." Either way, sorry if I am being too one dimensional on this. You don't have to accept my interpretation at all, but I just don't think you gave a fair account of his character before painting him as a blatant jerkass. |

Naw, my post was a gut-reaction to Ryu-kou, so your analysis is likely far more accurate and closer to the truth. I, personally, am looking forward t writing some RK-centric stuff dealing with the aftermath of the Eclipse. He doesn't seem like the type who could visit Port Ragu, or the former location of Ta Rei and not feel wracked with guilt. He'd have to get over it on his own too, it's not something you can be talked out of. As much as I liked that snowy little village, I hold no hope for them surviving the Eclipse <__< |

Quite liked Baghi, and thought Hou-Zan was pretty cool, especially for attacking Alex. That said, he was a little bit shifty at times with the whole following you and that was a tad annoying, but he wasn't a jerk about it in a huge sense, so I still liked him. I also think Sclater has a good perspective on Ryu-Kou there. He does act mean at times, but as Raven said, I can understand him since he cared about his sister. And I'm kinda used to RPG characters choosing a loved one over the world. Tales of Symphonia spoilers

Ryu-Kou seems like he'd be an interesting character to write, yeah. And Hou Zan was awesome. Baghi was cool too; I liked him well enough. Kind of wished he could have come with, mruuw. |
