Can I, theoretically, go to a Gamestop, put down $20 on a game, then put the rest down on it later and pick it up on the release date, with it paid off? |

I think the idea is generally to not pay the rest of it off until you pick it up, but I guess you could technically pay it all off before the game comes out. |

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

I think so. That's how I've always understood it, at least. |

Crap, I just remembered that I have a preorder set for SC2 at Gamestop that I don't plan on picking up, since I already have the game, and the only reason I did it was for the beta key. >_> Well uh, would it be possible to do at Wal-Mart or something? Or maybe my dad could do it at Gamestop instead. |

So you've had the preorder set on it for... how many months now? |

Since May of last year. Starcraft 2, by the way. Not Soulcalibur. |

When I preordered Dark Dawn, I just paid it all when I picked it up :/ It was basically just to ensure a copy, really. |

You put down money on a game, and if it's not picked up in 48 hours after the release date, the game gets to go to somebody else. |

Yeah, they more than likely have just removed your Starcraft preorder from the store's database and you just lose out on whatever money you paid down for it. But why did you buy it elsewhere when you already had to pay some money for the preorder? |

Because unexpectedly, my dad bought it for me on the release date. I had no money at the time, and I didn't even ask him to buy it or anything. Not that I'm complaining though. =P I'd still rather pay the game off before it comes out if I can do that. |

Whenever I preorder a video game, you just go up to the counter, slap a tenner on whatever you want, and then walk away until it's released. You then pay the difference on the release day. It's just there basically to ensure that you get a reserve copy on the launch day and no random schmuck can just come in and pluck the last copy of the shelf. As somebody else said, though, that'll only hold for 48 hours. Afterwards, it goes back on the shelf. You may lose your money, but the money might also still be on the system and can be transferred around. I know I've transferred cash from stuff I had on preorder before, but I don't know if it'll be valid *after* the date has passed. |
