I believe I've documented my feelings on Berseria already. As for the VN? S'aight. Could certainly be better but I wouldn't say it's bad. It reads like young-adult fiction, and looks like it, too. The art style is like a cross between anime and Berenstain Bears, or some Scholastic series. I'm pleasantly surprised that the main character has not been totally oblivious and/or an idiot. Some of the music is great, too. No sight of overt smut on the horizon. It's all very tasteful and nice with only a couple pls moments. |

After some digging I discovered that this VN apparently ran into legal trouble and might be undergoing a complete rewrite. Though recent news indicates that the team may have cancelled the project altogether. ;____; Ugh fuck me I am dying. I was sooo hyped for this. Hope it's not true, though I'm not sure I'd want a rewrite, either. The original premise was perfect as it was. Anyway, I have the demo, which apparently spans almost half (what was intended to be) the full game. No English translation, so I've been working on doing one myself 8DDD |

It's too late. There is no choice. My work is begun. From what I've been able to glean, the author of a Japanese novel with a similar premise approached the VN's producers and demanded a cut of the profits unless they change the script. The VN's writer is trying to thread the needle so she doesn't have to change too much, but she hasn't been heard from in a month and some people are asking for refunds because they don't want to get involved. I think. This is what Google translate is telling me. I can hand-translate this VN but I'm not doing so for producer blogs, lol. |

It's on sale right now and I'm leaning toward taking the plunge. I should go back to translating Xun Nuo. I made it about 2/3 of the way through the first chapter before other things took me away from it. It's quite good so far, but it's still mostly just easing the audience into the premise. Also, it turns out my initial read on the development issues was inaccurate. The game's writer wanted a larger cut of the profits than was previously agreed upon, which was not feasible for the rest of the development team. The writer refused to negotiate her cut down and the game wound up being suspended indefinitely. The development team does plan to release it at some point, but with a changed story and/or characters. Which sucks, because those two things were kind of the reason I was into this in the first place >____> |
