Yeah, I'm with Chrono and Dancer. Alex's partial mask strikes me more as something to cover an injury than an actual effort to hide his identity, especially given his attitude throughout the game. He's very cavalier about how familiar he is with Kraden and the Warriors of Vale, and he takes it in stride when Kraden finally addresses him by name. As if he was expecting it, which I bet he was. He doesn't make much of an effort to hide it. As for how the kids didn't know it was him, I don't think Isaac or anyone can be blamed for that. It's obvious that Rief knows about the part he played in the first two games (and that Mia has fed him a steady, brainwashing diet of her own hatred for Alex), but even if their parents told them what he looked like, how could they recognize him? Try describing a person's appearance to someone; you can only come up with generic physical features. The nuances of facial recognition can't be pinned down. Add that to the fact that his face is partially hidden, he has a different outfit, is allied with a faction barely anyone has heard about before, and the fact that everyone had good reason to believe he was dead, and it makes sense that no one but Kraden would instantly recognize him. Also I don't really object to Volechek's appearance at the end. I don't think Camelot actually expected us to be surprised by it, it was more a bit of foreshadowing that he was going to die. Did anyone actually think we had seen the last of him after he went into Luna Tower? I didn't. I expected to see him back, though admittedly not as a boss, but when I saw him I instantly went "hey, it's Volechek." I view it more as a demonstration of what Luna Psynergy (you bet your ass I'm calling it that) can do; possible mutation and possession. The only thing that did make me roll my eyes was how it seemed like Sveta instantly knew what was going on, especially because she sniffs him, but it's only after the final fight that she realizes she just kicked her brother's ass. Especially because I bet she's seen him in his beastform before.

Of course, though that still looked a hell of a lot like Volechek, and Sveta has enhanced senses. Also, I take this as proof that Lunarians are geneticists.

Remember when she froze and didn't know what to do so Tyrell said something like "You are an adept, right? Use some psynergy on it"? She then used the slap psynergy after. She must of knew who he was by that point because she could not bring herself to attack him right way or even say his name out of shock. She was willing to attack him as Chaos Hound and Chimera out of self defense and to defend the rest of the party. Only after the battles she recovered from the shock. At least these are my thoughts anyway. Another alternate explanation is that she could barely smell him due to the dark energy he is pumped with. This would be similar to Boney (a dog) in Mother 3 who can smell enemies' weakpoints but sometimes the enemies don't have a smell or have a terrible smell (therefore Boney whines). She may smell him a bit but she still wasn't sure if it was really him. Also even if she may have seen his beast form, it may have not looked like at all how he looks as the Chaos Hound. Chaos Hound may look like Volechek to you but do remember that nobody can recognize Super Man if he puts on glasses. This is probably what Chaos Hound is like to the GS Universe. |

The Superman example is true enough, but I could never swallow bullshit. I'm allergic to it. You do have a point about the corrupting dark energies screwing with Sveta's perceptions of him. I still think she was legitimately surprised after the battle though; the way she sniffs him again then jumps back and goes "agh!" before stuttering the realization that it's her brother.

So let's combine these two alternate theories of mine. Chaos Hound appears Chaos Hound at this point still has some form of conscience and tries hard to restrain himself from attacking his sister. Sveta attempts to smell Chaos Hound. Chaos Hound is filled with dark energy that obscures Volechek's scent but somehow manages to smell, let's juts say, 5% of the scent. She feels it may be him but is not 100% sure therefore she cannot bring herself to attack him even when Volechek loses himself in the madness and tries to attack. Volechek's true beastform probably does not look like Chaos Hound therefore she cannot recognize him by sight either. Also he is so corrupt that Sveta can't spirit sense him as well. Tyrell asks rhetorically "Are you an adept?" This snaps Sveta out of her freezing state and she uses Slap psynergy. Volechek starts to calm down. Blados and Chalis are fearful that the party may find out and Volechek will recover somewhat so they intervene. After the battle, much of the dark energy is dispelled and Volechek is less corrupt therefore Sveta can finally smell him and spirit sense him and therefore recognize him. |

ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS

I didn't realise there was an actual JBM on DD on tvtropes until yesterday xD And most of them are the same as mine. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was annoyed by a lot of this stuff. I figured out what the Golden Sun series has now reminded me of- the transition from Jak and Daxter into J & D 2. The first one was happy and fun, the second one suddenly had a well-deserved higher rating and was really dark. I approved for Jak and Dax (although they feel like entirely different games) and I think I approve for DD too even though the game feels exactly the same. |

What really bugs ME are the Psynergy Vortexes. They just didn't seem to fit with what was previously established. I could justify it by saying that high concentrations of Psynergy can cause their creation, levels of which were impossible in the previous games. But what bugs me even more is the existence of lore/technology in this game that wasn't present in the others. WHERE WERE THEY. |

Exactly. That sums up a lot of what annoyed me. It's like they worldbuilt this amazing place with so much history(I mean with all the stuff us ToK-ers know we could've written an atlas/encyclopedia about Weyard) ANDDDD then they totally just changed it. |

The Jenai? The other two I can't recall right now? EH? If they had explained that this recent knowledge was exposed due to the recent GoldenSun shenanigans, and everyone managed to learn at least SOME information, that would be somewhat reasonable. But noooo, all of a sudden that's all everyone talks about! |

I think the only thing that bugged me, and it didn't even really BUG me so much as jumped out whenever I saw/thought about it, was how much better the condition of all the ruins seemed to be in Dark Dawn, and random things like Wise One statues and Zol blocks EVERYWHERE. But otherwise I was okay with it. I was actually pretty happy when they gave us the names Exathi, Jinei, and I think the last one was Lori, or Nori or something. I think they should've probably used a word that didn't sound like Djinni for the ancient adepts of course, but I remain an adament supporter that a new Djinn is born whenever an adept of superior power dies :3 The summons were also much more mechanical than the ones in TLA/TBS, or at least they looked like they'd been spruced up in more ways than just a graphics update. Maybe Alchemy polished up Ramses' armor and revealed Boreas for the giant horse-man he was? |
