Well if we still go by real life standards, it's fairly obvious that the Saurians died out, hence the Cretaceous Extinction. Doesn't change that dinosaurs shouldn't be able to have radio wave civilizations, but at least prevents them from having to "have modern descendants." Either way, it's a bit weird for a futuristic series to take sudden interest in the past. |

Especially one with heavy space thematics. Having the terrestrial focus was really jarring. However, as nonsensical as the story was, I personally was more bothered by the actual gameplay. Me? I'm a fair person. I like playing the game as it was meant to be played - so being a dick and using secret code superpower modes on wifi is a no-go. Apparently, everyone except for me who plays that game is a dick, because that's all you ever saw online - totally killed the fun. The only thing that stood a chance was the other superpower mode that could be accessed the same way - and without the big penalty that it was supposed to have. Makes me actually very glad they took stuff out of the third game here in the US - almost everyone who plays online agrees it was a good move since it was all overpowered (and again, could negate the one huge downside of Rogue form). It actually did a good job balancing without it - standard forms have the benefit of more ability support, as well as versatility, while Rogue is a beast with swords. |

Well, in this case it's less that the gameplay was bad and more that there were no limits in play to keep it from being abused. If those codes only worked in single player, there'd be no problem. But yeah, I like how all the forms are usable in SF3's online play. Sure, you can argue that some are more useful than others, but they're all viable. |

Well, standalone there's really not much way of usefulness outside of Rogue Form. However, the right combo is quite powerful. The way it's balanced is pretty neat, too - and makes sense with the story. Rogue Form has the power of a combo-form right off the bat, but can't have the added LP for abilities that brotherbands give you. Combo Forms, on the other hand, get a lot of innate abilities thanks to the LP boost, but have to work their way up to their advanced form. Hell, even superforms are balanced! You get super awesome abilities... but you lose your folder and are stuck with an in-game folder! Sure, you have a chance for a supermove, but all those strategies of yours are officially moot. One thing it definitely did better than EXE, though, is that you literally will build your folder around your form, no matter what it is. 4 flirted with it, 5 tried to refine it, 6 started to show promise... but SF1 and 2 really didn't do it well. SF3 really allowed it to shine. |

Well, in SF2, at least, you'd have to delete your brothers to access Rogue form, so if you want to keep your brothers, too bad, can't use it. 3 simply rendering the bonuses moot without deleting your brothers (that is what it did, right?) made Rogue Noise more useful. Yeah, it really helps with theme folder building that your forms are mostly permanent. Ignoring BN4's horrible chip balance, until BN6 you'd have to either win the battle in three turns, or build your folder around more than one form, otherwise, say goodbye to your form strategy. Stupid three turn limit. But yeah, I like how in SF3 folder building is more geared around your form rather than the same old combos like it was in most of the BN games. |

You cannot have brothers in order to unlock Rogue Noise. If you have brothers, it can never be gotten. However, the +50 to swords, Mu rejection barrier, and (iirc) stun effect caused by non-elemental cards easily makes up for it. A Rogue Sword folder easily racks up noise, dishes out damage, and stun locks, as well as having a barrier that blocks any attack and regenerates every turn. Some people actually whine that Rogue Bushido folders are broken as hell. I will tell you it's powerful, yes... but the better folder is easily a Rogue Swordfighter folder. Trust me, it's the one I use.

Hm, my bad then. And Rogue Noise deserves to be powerful with it's swords, it has all that stuff because it can't access brother bonuses/Black Ace/Red Joker. |

Exactly the counter argument we Rogues use - we lack the versatility and innate bonuses of Forms. Hell, non-element isn't really even a bonus, since our folders really can't take advantage of exploiting weaknesses outside of Cygnus forms. We don't even get a special charge shot. And Mega Cards? We can't use ANY OF THEM. That crazy high power up to swords is by far justified. |

Hm... I'm torn on this. I was a HUUUGE fan of the BN series, and I tried Starforce. The first one was okay, but I didn't feel like it had as much charm and the second one was absolutely AWFUL and completely ruined it for me. I don't know if it was just the terrible plot, but I didn't even enjoy the gameplay anymore, it all felt tedious and unnecessary. It's interesting to see that number 3 seems to have redeemed it, but I'm so troubled by how much I hated two I'm really turned off to the series. Also, I haven't been posting but I've been reading every page of this topic for a few pages now, and you guys REALLY made me miss Battlenetwork. |

Aye, 3's definitely worth getting. Don't waste your money on the first two, but 3 is on par with BN2 and 6. Furthermore, the forms aren't exclusive to versions either (just more common in one vs the other), so what you really want to make your decision with is which set of Gigas and which Super Form you want. ...You know, because of that, I kinda wish it was just something you chose at startup. There's no need to have multiple versions anymore. |

Well, to be fair, SF3 is the last game in the Network timeline to be released, and SF2 still had a bit more version differences. So maybe they will stop that with whatever the next series'll be. Hopefully. Doubt it, but hopefully. Also Bliss, as stated before, in addition to the gameplay, SF3 has a MASSIVELY improved plot too. So I'm sure you would like it since you liked the BN games. |

Aye. Most people didn't give it a chance due to the flops that were SF1 and 2 - which is why sales were so low - but it's really the best game in the series by far. Edit: Hey, guess what I found out? In BN6, the link navis DO level up - in Japan. Apparently, the thing is that along with the Boktai stuff, they ripped the Beast Link stuff out - including unlocking Protoman as a controllable navi (too bad we can't link cross with him, though...). We apparently were going to be able to do things to level up each of the navis - and could apparently fight BassSP with them. |

I hate that we get nerfed versions, at least with the .EXE timeline, because they've been pulling this for ages now in this timeline, adding all this extra content and denying it. Alll of that sounds absolutely amazing and I'm just really really sad we never got any of that. Even with out a Cross, playing as Protoman was ALWAYS my favorite thing ever, and having all of the Navis level up to be able to compete (because by End game they weren't nearly as strong as you) would have been way better. And once I get some money, maybe I'll give SF3 a shot. I could go for a nice game, don't have much new to play lately. Also, I agree that there shouldn't be two versions of every game. It's a completely useless and foolish marketing ploy to try to get some people to buy both, (a la Pokemon) only here the difference between the two versions is so negligible there's virtually no reason for this to be practical. Even if they want to split the game into two versions in one cartridge a la BN5 Double Team DS, I'd accept that, because then I get two save files. Also, I miss that game so much, because you got to have a Forte form AND carry around a team of Navis and switch on the fly in battle. I regret nothing more than lending that to a friend who then lost it. |

Was aware of Protoman being controllable and link navis being able to fight BassSP. Was NOT aware that they leveled up. Dammit, Japan. Yup, removing content is just plain stupid. Who cares if the content would mean next to nothing to the average western gamer, you're still shortening the game that they paid good money for. Extra content that makes no sense because it references something only in Japan is better than no content at all. Also, the "split game" thing even now is meaningless, since SF3 comes with two save files as well. And unlike SF2, there are literally no differences between the two files. It's just two saves. |

I hear that for Melee, they wanted to originally dummy out the Fire Emblem characters. Good thing they didn't. Now they have a Western audience. |

I've played pretty much everything except the X series. I know I'm missing out by not playing them, but I don't have the proper system to try. >.> Also, I can assume I'm not alone in feeling irritated that we never saw Operate Shooting Star in the west? |

YES YES! I ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY A BEJEWELED CLONE. Do you think Jewel Man will be playable? I mean he is the most facinating character to come out of the franchise and it would be a shame if we don't get an opportunity to play as this magnificent android. They made Splashy playable in that other game about dodging spikes and now it is time for her shiny brother to shine. |
