Blados and Chalis are named from the Spade and Heart suite of these cards. Arcanus, or Ace, is the highest card of one of those suits, which is why Alex chose that name. He isn't insinuating that he's one of the highest, one of the suits, but that he's high enough in the ranks to have reason to be listened to. That's how he maintains his position with them till the end, where he notices that their ideals don't match the High Empyror's ideals.

This is something I discovered tonight upon researching information for my Wheat Sword guide. I'm not implying anything by this topic, I'm just bringing it up for discussion.

See now, I figured that Alex's chosen name of Arcanus signified that he "represented" the Major Arcana, which are the most important cards in a tarot deck.

I was actually kidding, since Blados and Chalis are just aliases they made for themselves.

I do see some potential for a Major Arcana series of equipment in the next game, though. There's too many for a full set of characters, probably, but having high-end equipment based on each of the cards would be interesting.

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

I thought this was common knowledge once you've beaten the game? I mean, Kraden does explain it all when he figures out that Arcanus is Alex.

I heard that was more ambiguous in the NA version's script. I know it's said outright in the EU version. Anyone got the script for that part for the NA version?

I don't recall the exact words, but Kraden says something along the lines of "I heard about a deck of cards used to read fortunes once, and two of the suits are called Blades and Cups, hence Blados and Chalis. Arcanus must have named himself after the Arcana, the highest set of cards."

I don't have the script, but I remember the conversation very well, because I was attentive for it. The only vague thing is that Kraden doesn't outright call them "Tarot" cards. He mentions that he's heard of a deck of cards used to tell fortunes, and that Blados and Chalis are named after two of the suits in that decks, Swords and Cups/Chalices, and that there's another set of cards in the deck above those, which Arcanus is named after.

I suppose it may go over a few heads, but anyone vaguely familiar with Tarot could not miss this in the least.

I'm bringing this up mostly as a reference for me, to be honest. And to clue anyone in who didn't catch it.

No yeah, the NA version isn't really vague at all.

Still, Alex is definitely an important fella to somebody at least.

A set of 22 weapons based on the Major Arcana would be interesting... Especially if Scythes were made a weapon. I could see the Death Scythe being one of the 22. XD
