Unsure if this belongs here. If not, feel free to move it. What are you guys' thoughts on this? Naturally, we all agree that sudden and unexpected bird deaths of the magnitude that was initially reported in Arkansas is neither unheard of nor particularly frightening in any real sense of the word. That being said, these recent deaths have even raised an eyebrow or two from me. If it was just a couple of localized incidents, even during a several day span, as was initially experienced, I wouldn't think anything of it. Honestly, I still don't think much of it, in the sense that it's some obvious portend to an eschatological omen or some such (though naturally, I've heard anecdotes of some postulating that possibility). I do find it particularly disturbing, however, at the very least. My aunt suspects terrorism. I just think it's currently unexplainable (even if we have plausible explanations for each of the bird deaths, we currently lack an explanation as to why this is happening on such a large scale, and with such a great magnitude). Any thoughts? |

It's all media sensationalism: read here.
So we're actually below average on the amount of wildlife kills, it's just that nobody really heard about them before. Also, this could probably pass for General Discussion, but I'm not gonna bother moving it. For future reference, if you're unsure of whether something should go in SSB, I'd err on the side of allowing more discussion in GD than closing it off in SSB. If it really needs to go to SSB we can always just move it in there. |

I suspect aliens, to be honest. But no, what Crash said. This incident is being dramaticized because really, it was kind of dramatic. It's disturbing when birds drop out of the sky, like Might Oracle said. It's like reverse The Birds. Lots of people saw it, filmed it, and freaked out. So the media jumped up. |

The media is fantastic at overhyping things these days. It is pretty shocking, but it's not the first time it's happened; just the first time they've really taken notice of these poor creatures dying and stirred it up to more then what it is. The Mirror even suggests it's a sign of the Apocalypse, which is really taking it out of proportion. >.> |
