Well yeah, I think it's clear there's some kind of random brainwashing going on. But it's hard to say what, if anything, was real in what happened before it. Did they really just kill the lich? (though, destroying the phylactery might not be canon). Plus it's the soul-sinking feeling of seeing impossible happinesses, such as people brought back to life and everyone happy, and knowing it's all an illusion that's going to shatter without mercy.

The following strip [where they chop the Lichs head up] is almost certainly fake. Do you notice how the colours get washed out and more...purpley...as the strip goes on?

Also Belkar seems to have spontaneously returned to life after specifically being mentioned to be dead. He's standing and being hypnotized with the rest in the last panel on that page.
