Your party needs the Umbra Gear to survive Apollo Sanctum, but only Sveta can wear it. Okay, so when you move through it you stay close to Sveta to receive it's protection. When the party spreads out upon confronting the final bosses, they're in the shadows. Fair enough. The random enemies are only Tuaparang soldiers, who, as Dark Adepts have a resistance to the light. (Hence Volechek being able to get on top of the Apollo Lens and being able to fire it). This obviously includes Blados and Chalis as well, and basically stated outright when Chalis is all "you don't have enough of a dark side to survive the light" when Matthew tries to fire the lens. Okay, so Umbra Gear, being Dark Adepts, and staying in the shadows can protect you from Apollo Sanctum's light. But what about Alex? He fits none of these requirements. Why isn't he affected by the light? Or are we just supposed to assume that absorbing most of the power of the forming Golden Sun was good enough to protect him? |

The Golden Sun is pure energy, probably stronger than any type of Psynergy in the entire series. He got most of this energy (don't forget it's so powerful, it reshaped Weyard over the course of 30 years). I'd say he's nearly invincible at this point, and would be if the Wise One didn't prepare in advance. So yeah, that's probably why. Also, he's Alex. He's never made any sense. It's how he rolls. |

It's most likely the Golden Sun power protecting him, or he was wearing some sort of Umbra Gear himself, but I also think possibly; Remember how Felix and the group got through Lamakan because Mernardi and Saturos surpressed the heat being strong adepts? I can't recall this happening specifically in the previous games, but what if Blados and Chalis helped Alex because they gave off Umbra? Basically, being in close proximity with them gave him like a shield cover perhaps; I swear swear swear something similar like this happens in the previous games but perhaps I'm just twisting the example I gave. But basically, there's a lot of Umbra Psynergy going around because of the soldiers and Chalis and Blados's presence. Now they're not with Alex immediately, so this does seem unlikely, but I dunno, maybe they were hiding in teh shadowz or the range it gives off is pretty large...regardless, I don't think it's likely, but I'm just throwing this out there. |

It's freaking ALEX. Man COME ON do you really need an explanation for somebody who CLEARLY is ridiculously powerful xP As an aside, I found Chalis' line there very interesting. Only if you're cruel/dark/twisted can you begin to survive the light. Total inversion of most other cliches. |

Yeah I figured it boiled down to "Alex is hax powerful," I was just wondering if I missed something. And I agree, Satty, this is one of the few times where it's not so much "light beats dark" but that they cancel each other out. |

Having now finished the game, that occurred to me as well. I just figured, going with what Chalis said about having darkness in their hearts, that Alex was okay because he was a bad dude. I'll be he's even bad enough to rescue the President from ninjas. Either that or Golden Sun hax. |

Alex is the new philosopher's stone, remember? If TWO can stop a volcano for a while, Alex can surely shrug off some light. |

So, where did you get this from, Role? >_> Just wondering. Also two Philosopher's Stones stopping a volcano? Where are you getting that from? Also, the Wise One, considering how he heals your party, seems to be very much active. >_> I think you're misinterpreting some things, Role... |

I count one Philosopher's Stone stopping a volcano. Also I don't know where anyone got the idea that Alex became a new one or anything.... |

Well, a Philosopher's Stone was supposed to be formed when the Golden Sun appeared, so he may have become one since he was there at the center of the light. I wouldn't rule out the possibility, though at this point I would hesitate to say that that's my position. But yeah, only one Stone stopping the volcano. |

The Wise One Abbreviated: TWO The fact that you wrote it out and didn't realize it makes me lulz. The answer you are seeking is: When the golden sun bathes its light on Mount Aleph, the Philosopher's Stone is formed. IMO, this time it more or less made Alex a sort of flawed Philosopher's Stone, due to his slight deficiency in Mars Power. |

The Wise One's encyclopedia thing explicitly says he was created by the Ancients, and is now known as "the Philosopher's Stone." Not necessarily "a," but -the-. Role MAY be on to something with that whole "it is that burst of light which gives birth to the Philosopher's Stone," which would make the Wise One the last one to possess the Golden Sun - but we know that he was created by the ancients, so... Also, Alex doesn't have the whole GS. So yeah, not really a Philosopher's Stone, even if you accept the premise. Edit: I assumed you were capitalizing for emphasis, since that's your posting style. =P Edited by Saturos, Jan 4 2011, 04:14 PM.

A flawed one, but one nonetheless. Also, remember that I also have theory that says that the cycle of Sealing alchemy then Releasing alchemy is a repeating one - so that means that not only could TWO be one of the Philosopher's stones, but each of the Sol Blades could be them as well. Heck, given the significance of the Cloud Brand/Murakumo in TLA, it could just be a very very ancient one that's lost most of its power. Alex is also most likely not the last one, though I bet that living philosopher's stones are quite rare indeed. |

What Murakumo? Also, giving that much emphasis on the items when they don't even have encyclopedia entries is a bit of fan-wank. The Sol Blade could be a single weapon, or two weapons, or there could be several copies, all by the same maker (probably a Jenei) or by multiple makers. We know next to nothing about the weapon, save that it appears in Mars Lighthouse, and it appears in a pedastal in the Apollo Sanctum. It's not like the Master Sword where there's a history attached to it. Sol Blade MIGHT get a history in a future game, but for now, giving it any plot importance is a bit of fan-wank. The second one, at the very most, is a key as well as a weapon. But that's it. We don't know anything else about it. We can speculate all we want, but saying it's a Philosopher's Stone as well, or it's a Legendary Blade that chooses its wielder, or something, is a bit flawed. It might be just a weapon that only Earth Adepts who can use Long Swords can wield. That can unlock sun-shaped locks. |
