DAMN YOU SATTY! DAMN YOU FOR BRINGING BARTHES' DEATH OF THE AUTHOR INTO THIS!

AND DAMN POSTMODERNISM!

That said, your points are good, but I've always preferred the authors perspective and intent. Of course, there's no denying a healthy dose of bringing your own things to a text, but I think it can get a bit egregious at times. It's an issue my ground is more than fuzzy on, I tend to blithely side on either side of the fence on random issues. Regardless, your opinion is yours and mine is mine. Just a difference of opinion regarding the livelihood of authors and readers.

Also, I knew Kradenette!Sveta wasn't backlashing against quiet archetypes. She was implying that everyone's reaction to Himi's "quiet" character was a backlash of our own prejudice against quiet archetypes, and I was undermining her argument by showing that there's no real way to substantiate any evidence of the creator's intentions of making her quiet. Rather, I felt they didn't intend much in her personality at all.

Hey Bliss, I think we have posted our replies at the same time. I started to write about Eoleo in the previous page. You have quite good toughts on these things, wanna see what you think of my views on Eoleo?

Amiti and Eoleo getting along better over time wouldn't be implausible. The very idea that you are going to rescue a pirate doesn't sit well with Amiti at all, because pirates are worthless scum and vile villains. When Briggs died, Amiti realized he was wrong to make such generalizations, so he probably felt guilty about it. On Eoleo's part, teasing people just seems to be in his personality. He may be there only a bit longer than Himi, but Eoleo was still around long enough/had enough lines for us to see what kind of person he was.

I'd hazard that, given her personality, Sveta would probably feel guilty about Volechek's role in Briggs's death, but we didn't really see how Eoleo felt about it, aside from wanting to avenge his father.

EDIT: The way he said how Volechek's death would avenge his father's seemed to show that he did feel bad for Sveta, at least.

Eoleo's characterization was brief, but from what we got out of it, I loved. I loved that he teased the kids, pointed out they were kids, and generally was all frumpy and "BAWWWW!" making fun of anyone. I'm not sure on a particular bond between him and Amiti, I'd need to think it over, but it was very enjoyable to have him jump on the "Let's abuse Tyrell" bandwagon.

I hadn't thought at all about the possibility of tension between Eoleo and Sveta. Then again, Volechek wasn't responsible for Briggs' death so much as the Shadow Creatures were. I personally interpreted his sense of fulfillment shifting away from revenge and towards the lighting of the Apollo Lens. If anything, this also creates a dynamic for some internal conflict in Eoleo that was never explored.

I just watched a gameplay video before the Chaos Hound fight. Himi, does say "very" twice and it was Eoleo, not Tyrell that says the hound got madder but not that it changes anything.

Is it more characteristic for a young child to say "very" twice? I don't know, but looking at fanart on pixiv I see two arts that depict Himi as sleeping on someone's shoulders, one on Eoleo and one on Matthew. Not sure if that means others also see her younger than the other party members. If she is canonically younger than others then I guess because she sees the others as "grown-ups" she may be shyer around them.

Bliss, I meant Eoleo and Amiti bonding as brothers in case I wasn't clear. I can totally see it that way.

Sheba in the other hand loves fighting, she gets excited when you put her on your team, she says something like "I will show you what I can do". If Felix is on the battle party but she is not, she gets very upset, I forgot the exact words but it is probably along the lines of "what you don't think I am good enough?'.
Actually, Sheba says: "Don't you want me with you anymore, Felix?"

Also, on Himi's age... I think at most, she'd probably be thirteen. I mean Sheba, at fourteen, had some curves at least. Himi has nothin' at all.

Honestly, I never really saw Himi as being terribly detached from everyone. She did seem a little reserved, but I honestly thought that was her character, because she didn't act any differently from her father. Not to mention her mother's out cold, and her reaction is "I must go on this quest to save everyone.", and I honestly doubt a child, espeacially one that young, would not feel upset. I believe she may be old enough to hold back her emotions, but to not have them period? I really doubt that.

>_> her father was anything but reserved when he was young. However, I think she did pick up his sense of honour and duty that he seemed to develop in later life (according to the villagers, anyway >_>). Perhaps, even moreso than her father, since I vaguely recall that he was opposed to the idea of her going out on the quest?
Allow me a revision, then: not that she was silent, but as you said, that she chose not to speak. Perhaps she was repressing it out of a sense of duty, which would possibly be a more mature thing to do, and thus grant her a more adult-mind. In that instance, you could ascribe the "very, very" thing to a language barrier. :P

I knew you'd enjoy that little post, Bliss. =P

Also, regarding Eoleo:

Hey, that's probably even closer to what Himi's personality exactly is. Sorta like Raven from Teen Titans for a lack of a better example. Or Mai from Avatar The Last Airbender.

Saw those Eoleo fanarts. Yup those fanarts perfectly depict Eoleo's teasing side. But there are fanarts out there that may hopefully show you what I mean when I say that Eoleo may be the older brother figure of the cast. Have in mind that I know this is pure fanon but it doesn't seem to be totally out of character for Eoleo either.

Screen-stretching image

This is one of the arts I am talking about for showing that some think Himi is possibly prepubescent.

Here Eoleo is using thermal and is laughing off Matt's fears trying to show him that there is nothing to be afraid of.

Saw a pretty interesting post on gamefads (yeah I don't go with my username there anymore but I do occasionally browse for interesting discussions). I know it was pretty much a joke but sometimes a joke has a basis for truth. Some guy said that Himi really died and now the Third Eye is possessing her body. While I am pretty sure Camelot would not go that far perhaps Himi really is slightly possessed by the third eye and is not completely herself at the moment which is why she barely talks. Perhaps sometimes we get a glimpse of her true personality (the "very" part before Chaos Hound) but other than that it is the third eye that is truly doing the talking.

A counter argument for this is that she did get visions before the third eye and before she got ill and therefore she was always like this. But maybe she got visions differently before and after. Perhaps with third eye she got the stereotypical monotonous voice which is commonly depicted in many possessed characters while before she had visions with more emotions. But since she was sick before the third eye we may never get any more info about her before that fateful scene unless Camelot cares and makes her hopefully playable brother talk about her in a potential GS4.

Himi is 11? I thought everyone other then Amiti and Eoleo were 16. o.o (According to hacked info from the game's codes that Kiki's friend got, Amiti is 19(with .30 at the end XD) and Eoleo is like 31/32.)

That was a dream I had. XD Sorry I didn't make that clear.

I think the idea about Himi being possessed is really cool, actually. Probably not something Camelot would do. Even if DD was darker in tone than the previous games, discovering that the little girl in your party is dead seems a bit far. But still, maybe the third eye does play a role in her personality, kind of like how Presea from Tales of Symphonia
Spoiler: click to toggle
At the very least, the burden of foreseeing unpleasant things is probably enough to make a young girl turn quiet.

I think we'll see Takeru in GS4. The game payed him enough attention to him to let us know he's important.

Himi could have been replaced by an item and nothing of value would have been lost.

I'm thinking we'll have the same set of party members in GS 4 and we'll hopefully see characters like Himi and Eoleo fleshed out more. I can't imagine they'd try to throw another group of eight new adepts at us especially with Amiti's arc left unfinished. We will be seeing more of these guys most likely.

In GS4, the entire first half of the game is Matt/Karis/Tyrell trying to coax their royal party members to come back and adventure with them XD

Sveta became Queen of Morgal.
Eoleo became CHAMPAN Pirate King (*shakes fist at Isaac*)
Apparently Paithos was on his deathbed, so Amiti's a king too.

And Susa'll go all papa-bear on Matt if their ship shows up outside Yamata again XD

It's not like monarchs were never used as party members before in other games. See Edgar from FFVI as an example.

Well, not in other games, sure. Even DD has all those characters there as Princes/Princesses (sans Eoleo, who BECOMES king, but it's not like Champa has a strict monarchical code or something). But Amiti and Sveta have cities/nations that got eaten ALIVE by Eclipse monsters, they'd need some serious motivation to be all like "KK let's go!" when they're the ones actually in charge now.

It's still do-able of course, they both have Warrior-status tagged onto their crown, so their people wouldn't freak and fall apart as badly as, say, Sana would have if Unan was all like "Main party get!" and ran off with them. He's a scholar who became a war-lord through necessity, he can't go off campaigning.

Unan's the kinda guy who campaigns with a ginormous army if gigantism that levels cities and enslaves all the lands crushed under his mighty war machine... I think the biggest entourage any of the DD monarchs have is Eoleo's crew to sail the ship...

I would be satisfied with Eoleo returning as he is my favorite in Dark Dawn and as you said he has the least amount of restrictions as a monarch. Himi's parents are also alive and well so she can come back too. Hmmm... interesting, how the ones with the least amount of screentime has the least amount of issues as returning characters.
