Spoilers being up until the endgame. Anyway.

Am I the only one that things that Sveta got too much of the spotlight? She gets a really long character arc that lasts from the moment you find out she's Volechek's sister all the way until the end of the game. Umbra gear? Sveta only. Yes, it has in story justification, but they didn't have to do it like that. I mean, compared to most RPGs, this isn't much, but this is Golden Sun, which isn't known for being particularly deep with characterization. Amiti and Eoleo have their own short character arcs, but those come and go pretty quickly (and Eoleo isn't even in the party for his). Sveta, on the other hand, ends up being just as important as Karis and Tyrell, perhaps even moreso considering that the only importance the latter two have is due to being childhood friends/children of the Warriors of Vale. Not to mention that, because of the Umbra Gear, Sveta joined Jenna as being a character you control outside of battle that isn't the hero (unless you count Colosso).

Meanwhile, Briggs of all people is killed off to bring some plot and depth to Eoleo, yet we don't even get to see Chaucha and going to Champa period is completely optional. And Himi, who shares with Eoleo the distinction of being a child to characters that appeared in TLA gets nothing at all, which I find ironic considering that in the most open ended part of TLA, Izumo and Champa were the ONLY parts that had any plot. Hell, Amiti is introduced as a character with a mysterious birth, and the revelation that he is Alex's son is just implied (although I'd be surprised if this wasn't brought up again in a sequel). I'm just saying, Sveta sure got a lot of screen time for being the only character that isn't related to a character we've met in the first two games (or in Eoleo's case, met in person).

Anyway, so am I the only one that things that Sveta got waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much attention? And don't give me the "it's okay, she's an interesting character" excuse. We only know that BECAUSE she got this much spotlight. Maybe Himi would've been too if we actually got to know her.

Disclaimer: I do not, in fact, dislike Sveta, this just really bugged me. Although in case you couldn't tell, Eoleo and Himi are my favorite characters, so maybe I'm a bit biased. No mention of Chaucha and lack of anything Himi despite the fact that we even got to see Suza and Kushinada again doesn't help.

She probably did get way more attention then one would expect, but because she is so crucial to the latter half of the game, there probably was little Camelot could do about it.

-She's a beastman
-Princess of Belinsk
-Brother is king, who is also important even with his lack of screentime
-Only one who can wear the Umbra Gear

I can see them creating those concepts for her and it led to how important she was to the plot, because she is due to her role, not her character. Look at someone like say, Amiti;

-Prince of Ayuthay
-Son of Alex (forget implied it's outright CONFIRMED, but never really taken as a plot point, more discussion for the party members)
-Insight Glass chooses him

The more ideas you get for a character, the more they become involved in the story and it was clear they did it this way. Is it unfair and unbalanced considering all characters don't have the same amount? No doubt. Himi could have been more involved because she actually had a fair bit; they just had time constrictions. As for Chaucha, I guess she was being a badass woman and fighting Eclipse Monsters or something. =P

I think they went with Sveta more because what she was rather then her personality, because she has quite an impact on the characters and sets the stage for the latter half of the game. I'm not saying that's fair though, I don't think it is. Just they couldn't really help it. The Umbra Gear is made by beastmen, so it makes sense that only a beastmen would be able to wear it because beastmen are total greedy jerks. Who is your beastman? Sveta!

So, I think she did, but I still quite like her even if she does steal some of the spotlight a fair bit.

Thanks Poui.

The Umbra Gear was made by the Jenei so the Beastmen who made the Apollo Lens could stand the light.

*headdesk*

Well, at the end of the day it was aimed for beastman, so it still turned out with Sveta being the only one who could wear it because she was the only beastman in the group. /o/

I believe they gave her that much of the spotlight because they wanted to show how crucial the beastmen were to the story.

If the beastmen were just another group of people/villagers, think of how important she would be to the story. Only to the point of getting them the Mountain Roc feather and then activating the Eclipse Tower. Hell - they wouldn't have even needed Sveta and could've used a different character altogether to be their Jupiter Adept.

Giraffes are adorable.

I am the best character ever.

Seriously speaking I think it is about time a favorite character of mine gets some spotlight. Most of my characters that I favor barely get any love. (Darn you Tai and Matt, go TK and Patamon! Gau needs more screen time! Sheba! She wasn't even mentioned in this game except by the book/encyclopedia entry. Some others I can't think of).

I agree that Himi was shorted, but there's no such thing as "too much time in the spotlight." Too much as opposed to what measurement? Camelot obviously chose to make her a primary character for a reason, and that's their decision to make. I agree that Himi could definitely had more to do (her mother is ill and she reacts... how?). I suppose you could somewhat defend it by saying that she's like, eleven, and she does have the whole Medium of the Gods thing going on.

Anyway: haters gonna hate

Himi is 11? I thought everyone other then Amiti and Eoleo were 16. o.o (According to hacked info from the game's codes that Kiki's friend got, Amiti is 19(with .30 at the end XD) and Eoleo is like 31/32.)

I think what Boyd is trying to say Satty, is that Sveta got pretty much an entire arc + endgame of focus all around her. A lot of the Mountain Roc part of the game revolves around her and she's mentioned a fair bit even when she's not with the group; it's even revealed she's pretty much leading them around to do what she wants, so it becomes a 'is she good or evil' mindset even. It's a big contrast to the other characters in the game and not just Himi; the Alchemy Machine arc revolved a fair bit around Amiti, but not to the extent of Sveta.

Normally Sveta's role belongs to (I agree with Kuroi about them giving story about the beastmen but this is her as a general character in the game) the main female in a video game. She's a potential love interest for the main character, gets into life-threatening danger at one point, has a somewhat mysterious air around her at first and even acts shifty at first getting the player to question her alignment.

Now what I mean by this, and I know it's not like that for all main female characters as Karis proves in this game, but imagine if Sveta and Karis swapped roles in the game. Sveta is now Matthew's childhood friend and knows him well. Let's also take that further and say that Karis doesn't join until later and Sveta is the princess of Belinsk as well as Matthew's friend. You would expect a lot to revolve around her because she is a primary character from the get-go. Instead, she joins later in the game, but the plot still revolves around her a lot anyway.

Now that's a little odd in my opinion; it's like having Colette in Tales of Symphonia and taking her from the beginning of the game to the middle of it. She still is an important character with this 'main female character' role, but it's not invoked until later on. Basically, Sveta is the game's main female character even more-so then Karis plot-wise, but she isn't revealed until this point in the game. Unlike Karis, she gets a lot of relevance to the plot and even a moment with the main male character, this being Matthew, that suggests feelings for each other. Naturally, these kind of characters get a lot of focus in the game.

So...I don't know quite where I'm going with this; I only intended my post to be a paragraph long. I guess what I'm saying is that Sveta had been there from the get-go, it wouldn't have seemed so odd for her to get so much screentime and spotlight. I agree with Kuroi that she was meant to show off the beastmen's story, but I think in doing this Camelot made her accidently or on purpose pretty much the heroine of the game due to her role, giving her touches of tragic and wise elements. Honestly, I can even see her being a potential candidate alongside say Matthew for Smash Bros. because she feels like the second most important character in the game IMO.

Well, that was a wild tangent. ^_^;; Sorry if that feels disjointed to read~

Amiti's and Eoleo's ages are as I expected, but I thought Himi would be 13, possibly 14... She's a damn good fighter for an 11-year old. XD

Wait a second. Satty said that Himi was eleven, but where did he get that figure? Kiki's friend seems to imply she's 16. Which would make her a Loli-Teenager. Which exist. I knew tiny, child-like teenagers, and still know some.

Everyone in Camelot is a furry; they're trying to convert us with overly large amounts of screentime for Sveta! Quick, the flamethrowers!

This did actually occur to me as I was playing though. I loved Sveta, had her in my party and dealt absurd amounts of damage with her beastman form (only reason I won the final battle) but... a part of me was thinking, 'Why is she getting so much attention? Compare her to Karis... she completely takes over as the main female of the party'. Oh well. Maybe there's a reason for it. Like canon Soulshipping.

I always thought Amiti was 19 and Eoleo was 31 anyway. I think Amiti's 19 because Ayuthay flourished again 20 years ago, and that must have been about the time he was concieved, since the Mysterious Mercury Adept disappeared right after.
