lolwut Zelda 1's translation is completely readable and comprehensible, just awkward. And for what it's worth I don't really hear people call it "Harvest Moon: Rune Factory" or anything like that, just "Rune Factory," but that's just my experience. And is "let's make a Mario on-rails shooter" really any different from saying "let's make a Mario racing game" or "let's make a Mario tennis game"? Those seem to have worked out pretty well. |

Mario is a much more audience friendly franchise as itīs aimed at kids and families. A racing game or party game does not seem weird in the Mario world of games and thus it works because it fits both in the idea of the game and the audience. Would you see Zelda go down that route? No, because itīs less free to take on different genre of games then Mario because itīs much different. I can expect say, a Zelda RPG, or something like a party board game in the likes of Wind Waker, but not in say Majoraīs Mask or Twilight Princess. Let me make this clear though because I havenīt done and I apologize for this because itīs led the topic off on a tangent. I donīt dislike the concept of Rune Factory nearly as much for the RPG genre (although that is a factor) as much as it revolves around the monster mechanics and concept of Harvest Moon, because the monster gameplay in Harvest Moon is...bad, to say the least. Itīs horribly dull to go through mine after mine having to encounter these things in a game that they donīt even belong in IMO, and I never bother with the mine sidequests in HM games because I dislike that part of the games so heavily. So naturally, a spinoff that revolves around a mechanic I so dislike, Iīm not very keen to try out. Thatīs what Iīm trying to get at when I say the concept bugs me; itīs the gameplay, not so much the genre. |

Peo, it took me about 4 readthroughs of your post to get what you were saying, because you managed to bury the meat of your complaint in the middle of a paragraph instead of putting it up front. I, therefore, will make sure there's a space between this expository paragraph and my argument. What it seemed to be saying, to me, was that you didn't want anything about HM to change AT ALL because it was somehow "worsened" by the inclusion of animals. I would argue against that point until the day I died. The problem is that you are not only saying you dislike a game, you are arguing that nobody should like the game. At least, such is my perception. |

Animals? No, he said something about the monsters. I didn't even know there were monsters in later Harvest Moon games though; the farthest I've played is Friends of Mineral Town. (Well, there were the wild dogs that would attack sometimes, but those are far from monsters--though I will say that "fighting" them sucked pretty badly) And I'm not seeing that he said "nobody" liked it at all--the whole time he's been talking about how much he dislikes Rune Factory. Lots of "I" and "me" in his posts. |

Well, in terms of monsters, no HM game has had them. At least, none that I know of. There's been animals, yes, but no monsters. Unless you count FoMT's Kappa, but he's not a "monster" because you don't fight him. EDIT: Also, my point was that he seemed to be saying "I don't like it, so nobody should like it". Matter of my perception there, even if it's wrong that's how he came across to me. |

Harvest Moon DS does indeed have monsters that you fight, and itīs steadily becoming more of a mainstream thing in the game. I donīt like this because itīs an idea not well implemented and doesnīt fit with the rest of the game. You shouldnīt have to fight your way through what is effectively a dungeon in a farming game. I donīt mind it when itīs not the main focus, but itīs becoming more and more like the main focus IMO. Grim, I promise you Iīm not saying everyone should like Rune Factory and I apologize if you got that impression from my posts because they werenīt clear. I merely dislike itīs concept. People like the idea of a Harvest Moon RPG? Hey, more power to them, I donīt intend to stop anyone from playing the game and wonīt rage at anyone for playing it. But I donīt play Harvest Moon for the monster/mine (radio edit) personally, and I really dislike seeing Natsume trying to cram it down my throat more and more, which each game is steadily doing more and more. I donīt bother with it, but I wouldnīt be surprised if they soon forced it in as a requirement to beat the game or something. >.> |
