I have all of these (as well as HM64, my personal favorite, and I also have the SNES version), but I really can't decide which one to play. The only ones I've ever finished are the SNES version and HM64. After reading up on HMDS a bit, I see it has lots of cut content and glitches. I have the mostly-glitch-free version though, apparently. I played a good bit of FoMT back in the PS1 days, when it was known as Back To Nature, and it's my second favorite. I got to the start of the third chapter in AWL and quit out of boredom; I love the game, but it gets soooo boring, to the point where I have to force myself to continue. I'd play HM64 again, but I dunno, I want something new! I haven't even touched HMDS or MM. So, help? |

Iīm gonna say Friends of Mineral Town. Itīs a fantastic game and I believe considered by many to be the best in the series. It is a pretty sweet game. AWL is very good, but the slow pace means a lot of people often get bored. Magical Melody isnīt a bad game despite what most will tell you, and DS isnīt bad either...just very glitchy as has been said. Personally, Iīd say play them all, with importance being FoMT, AWL, MM and DS in that order. |

Well since you've decided to go with FoMT for your starter, I suggest Magical Melody for your second game. The reason being, it's fun, memorable and so many things to do. There's lots of characters to interact with, what you do depends on if they stick around the village, there are a couple mini games you can play and IIRC was the first game to show if your character woke up tired from lack of sleep and had effects from it. (Eating an herb (bitter) or a pepper (hot) will wake him/her right up for some time though.) and actually sets forth a goal for you. (Find the musical notes.) A Wonderful Life is going to take awhile and you can easily screw many things up like, not being able to get ducks or the giant plant thing and HMDS is basically, A Wonderful Life but apparently set 100 years later or something weird like that. Not to mention the DS version has more eligible marriage candidates (In AWL you have 3. On the DS you have fourteen), a wide variety of interesting tools, the ability to ask the Harvest Sprites for help and a mine that can go 255 levels deep. Granted, AWL has some cool things like, hybrid crops, light tools and Automated milking rooms (Haven't seen this on DS so I don't know.) but I prefer the DS version over it, especially since it moves faster. |

Is Friends of Mineral Town the GBA one? Because that one was shit. Do yourself a favor: Go to Amazon or Ebay or wherever and buy Animal Parade, or GTFO to a store and buy Rune Factory 3, which is Harvest Moon, only you can also fight monsters with swords. If you are for some reason incapable of all of those, or if FoMT isn't the GBA one, instead play A Wonderful Life, it's the least bad of all the games listed. After that, it's: A Wonderful Life HMDS FoMT Magical Melody |

I donīt even classify Rune Factory as a Harvest Moon game. They need to cut the RPG monster crap and get back to pure and basic farming. The only fantasy stuff Harvest Moon needs are sprites and the Harvest Goddess because theyīre actually relevant in a good sense. I was fine with the monsters in the games originally, but then they go and devote a spinoff to them? Talk about overdoing it! It just doesnīt fit and itīs painful for me to see monsters of eternal darkness and sword fights in my farming games. It doesnīt belong in Harvest Moon. FoMT IMO is a very good game and is easy to get into as well as having long lasting appeal. Really, donīt think youīre wasting your time playing it, itīs a very rewarding game if you put the time in. |

FoMT was the GBA one, so yeah, it's a piece. For all the good Natsume puts in these games, they can't translate for shit. These are the guys that put 'sofa' as 'sopha' and just plain missed one dude, who still speaks in Japanese. Of course, these are also the guys that misspelled their own company's name, so yeah. Uh, Hero of Leaf Valley is out on the PSP, it's a port of Save the Homeland that fixed things, i'd recommend getting that. Also, don't listen to Peo, Rune Factory is a Harvest Moon RPG, which means you should automatically be buying it right now. |

I love love love FoMT. Something about it just so addicting. The only other harvest moon I played was Harvest Moon DS which just didn't hold my interest or seem as charming. |

None of that changes the fact that the translators were drunk while making it, Slash, m'boy. That alone makes it a pile of crap. |

I can go on and on about each problem I've found in every HM game but that'd get us nowhere. DS version for example...you run by the equipment box and suddenly an event thing pops up, your face scrolls by and you say "Ouch." and that's it. |

All the same, that doesnīt change the fact itīs based on Harvest Moon and everyone refers to it as such. =/ Itīs like taking Mario and saying "hey, letīs make it a rails shooter game!", and we all know how Yoshi Safari turned out. Not saying Rune Factory is a bad game, but I heavily dislike itīs concept and what makes it up as a game. Also, while admittedly Natsume sucks with translations, FoMTīs translation isnīt abysmal to the point it makes the game unplayable. I can understand if it was say, Engrish, but itīs not that bad. There is literally tons to do in it and it will soak up your hours a lot more then other GBA games. Again, itīs a game worth investing not just your cash but your time in. |
