So, I figured we should have a thread for discussing training methods, because it's one of my favorite things to discuss with gamers. What are your favorite ways to train/strategize? I'm a fan of "hit first, kill with one shot" myself. At least it works for Frontier Brains. But I like to be original with my team. Nobody likes the guy with a team full of Ubers or OU's with strong, yet predictable movesets. What are your thoughts? |

I do tend to use mostly OU Pokemon, but I do try to mix it up a bit. I never use Ubers though. Except in some occasions. Like when I played White I just HAD to use Zekrom because who doesn't love a giant electric generator dragon? As for EV training, I had set methods in D/P/Pt, but I have yet to find good spots in B/W. Mostly because I don't have a real copy and therefore it is not available readily. I won't be continuing any further on an emulator anyway. I also don't really know good spots in HG/SS either... As for IVs and natures... well, I us the easiest methods possible to get the natures I want, but I'm lazy to I tend to accept IVs as long as they're high. Except for Speed, that I do go for 31 in a sweeper, except for one time. I really, REALLY wish I had WiFi. I'd love to battle some of the people here... mayhaps one day I can use the WiFi connection a friend has, apparently it's quite good. I don't have a 100% set in stone team for either Gen. If we were to fight in 4th Gen, I have a few I could choose from, but most of them are lackluster due to imperfect IVs. :| |

IVs? Beh. One of my best Pokemon has all the wrong IVs and he still wipes the floor with opponents. |

To be honest, if you're not doing competitive, you don't need IVs. Ingame is a joke except for the |

I love how my battle against Lemu a while ago was won by my luxray scraping through the last ditch attack with 5hp - the exact amount it had recovered with shell bell up 'til that point

That battle was awesome. The only time I ever lose is when it gets down to the wire like that did. |

I just used it all the way through my diamond, from when I caught a lv 3 shinx. I don't really care about movesets or anything, so long as I can enjoy using it. That lv3 shinx is now LUKE THE LV90 FEMALE LUXRAY. I didn't realise it was female when I named it (aka wasn't paying attention). Also, our battle was awesome and we should battle again before the tourney. I needs me some practice anyway, and really shouldn't have opened with my tank /o/ |

Can't you Rare Candy/E4 spam all the way to 100? Also, i don't like shallow movepools because i can't get creative. |

I have a Luxray. It's movepool is shallow, but it certainly is a beast after a few stat grinds. Mine, a male named Zamba, knows Crunch, Thunder Fang, Charge and Howl. |

A: Don't have any care dandies. B: Can't be bothered E4 spamming, no real point anyway. It's gotten that high for using it to train up others who have EXP shares stuck on them. As I said, I don't really care about competitive aspects or levelling. EDIT: Also, its movepool is Strength, Crunch, Spark and Discharge. |

Personally, I go mainly with the mons I LIKE. I fill in the rest competitively. It's why I often have both a Gallade and a Gardevoir on my own team. As far as tweaking goes, good IVs on the stat you want is nice, but tedious as hell, especially if you're going for a particular personality and/or ability. God forbid you want a Vespiqueen. Instead, I'm willing to settle for having a good personality without having uber IVs. EV training, though, this is important. If you want to stand ANY chance competitively, you need to do this. Figure out the role of the mon and set them up. Sweepers need offense and speed Tanks need offense and defenses Walls need defenses and HP Harassers need speed and defense Setup/Baton Passer needs a defenses and HP Usually, the stats alone will tell you what the mon is good with. What you need after that is determined by what moves they have available to them. The exception is baton passers - usually these are mons with a ton of buffs AND the ability to baton pass. They also USUALLY have nice base speed, so you really have to worry about them surviving to pass those buffs. This, of course, is just my opinion. I'm sure there's people with more experience out there. |

I'm sure the various RNG abuse methods + Power items giving a 50%(?) chance of passing a IV in HG/SS help ease the pain but not everyone may be willing to do them. |

Unless it's pre-gen4, then that's when stuff like Codebreaker and Gameshark actually worked. |

Legit > All RNG manipulation is okay, but Genetically Engineered Mons and Hack Mons are not cool. Anywho, what my main team is depends on the game, really. Plat/Pearl have one team, SS has another, and my Gen V team will be different still. USUALLY it'll have Pandora and Prometheus (my Gardevoir and Gallade, respectively) as the main mons. Depending on if I'm playing Challenger or Defender, they'll either be my leads or my trumps. |
