an extremely vague law to be directed to ban anything that even slightly ecchi, anything with homosexual undertones or overtones, anything and everything NSFW

So nothing worth reading would be affected. Carry on.

And all of the NSFW stuff is independently published for stuff like Comiket and sold unofficially, so lol @ stopping ero-doujins.

And Comiket is HELD in Tokyo City. You honestly think they'd allow Comiket to continue, with this new law in place?

And if not in Tokyo, do you honestly think that Comiket will have the power to survive? This is like a death bell to the Fujoushi.

Isn't this pretty much like America banning all medias of porn?

Read the actual bill. It only prevents said material from being sold to minors in retail stores.

Ero-doujins are exempt from this bill because they're already regulated; minors can't purchase them. So all it would do to Comiket is not allow children under the age of 18 to enter/buy ero-doujins.

Even more bizarrely, the final draft actually removed a passage that imposed “a duty not to possess [photographic] child pornography” on Tokyo residents, whilst leaving the section banning erotic manga and anime (and explicitly excluding photographic materials) all but unchanged

I find it disturbing that the liberals in japan consider CP as 'artistic license' when the whole rest of the world is all "WTF is wrong with you?!", even the crazy libs here in the US. This is one thing I can agree with - pixels may not really exist, but the IRL children do.

Way to shoot yourself in the foot, japan. If you thought the world would like this, when they see you said that CP is okay, they'll still be pissed at you.

You thought that Japanese culture was just as progressive and open-minded as ours? Serious question.

The homosexuality attack there pissed me off more than a little too, not gonna lie.

It looks like tokyo's gonna start spiralling down now, anyway. This was not a wise move and I don't see how they were idiotic enough to think it a wise move.

Like I said, I hope it gets repealed, but I also hope that the anime industry gets a wake up call because of it.

The attack on homosexuality is just yet another example of humanity's infinite stupidity and ignorance.

Also: *Agrees with Role on the fact that the moemoe crap needs to die*

I would think that child porn would fall under the rest of the law, but then again I guess that passage being removed means it wouldn't do anything to people that already have it. Either way, the fact that they specifically took that out is telling, yeah.

Also maybe I'm missing the point here, but I don't see how this would hamper moemoe anime in any way. Unless they're more fanservicey than I thought (I don't watch that stuff).

This bill killed the Ero stuff and glares at the Moe saying "you're next". Remember who it was targeted at - those same Otaku. Not only that, if you take a VERY liberal interpretation of the law, you can extend it to include Moe stuff too.

I think he's saying the reaction would be equivalent, or something.

But I don't think it's quite the same anyway.

This is one of those 'not sure if want' things for me. For one, it may force them to actually do more than moemoe and eroero crap, and make anime for the most part GOOD again.

On the other hand, it could kill it too.

One thing is for certain - the PM of Japan SLAMMED them for this law, if what I read on sankaku is correct. He is not in favor of it AT ALL.
He's reportedly a huge fan of Rozen Maiden, so that's not surprising.

Also, I agree on the moe/ero points. Never been a fan of fanservice to begin with.

You probably just mean erotic fanservice, because fanservice itself is a very broad term and can mean something as simple as throwing in a reference to another popular show or the like.

Yes, my bad. Continuity nods and the like I do enjoy, it's just erotic (And "asexual cuddlelust", to use TVTropes' term) I don't like.

You get different types of fanservice. You get stuff like the zelda reference in Fable III where you check one of the graves in a yard of about 200 of the things and it says "It's dangerous to go out alone. Take this." and then lets you dig up a toy sword. I believe the one being referenced there is the "SUDDENLY HALF NAKED CHICKS" type.

So I wonder when the teenage girls of Japan will rebel when they find out that their precious BL can no longer be sold to them legally.
