Well, Governor Shintaro Ishihara has pushed through, and it is now passed into law: an extremely vague law to be directed to ban anything that even slightly ecchi, anything with homosexual undertones or overtones, anything and everything NSFW, and pretty much all around is an anti-Otaku law. I know Hikkokumori are a problem, but this is NOT the way to go about dealing with it. Especially not with the purposes Ishihara-san has. Read about it on Sankoku Complex. The article you want is "Tokyo Anime & Manga Ban Passes." The article is about a third of the way down the main page as of this writing. I won't link to it, because that news site is, for the most part, NSFW. It's not going to be like linking to Encyclopedia Dramatica or some pr0n blog, but the material on there is a mixture of discussing anime, manga, and the naughty stuff. Take it as you will. |

... wow. As much as it was expected to happen, it doesn't have to be that extreme. <_< I'm kind of sad about that since this probably includes some really great series that have slight undertones of that. D: |

Actually, the Government is smart, and it's way of enforcing it is very evil and would be effective: forcing the publishers into self-censoring and banning. Here's a more "respectable" news source to link to. I'll quote the Governor on it: “It’s not just about children. We’ve got homosexuals casually appearing even on television. Japan has become far too untamed. I’ll go forward with [this bill] with a sense of mission in heart.” WAT. IN. KRADEN'S. MAGNIFICENT. BEARD. THE. TARTARUS. IS. THIS. |

You thought that Japanese culture was just as progressive and open-minded as ours? Serious question. |

That said part is, the US and other western countries will probably applaud Tokyo for getting rid of such an "dangerous menace to their children." |

Yeah man, they're all rooted in tradition and all that nonsense over in Japan. EDIT: That's because the governments are run by a bunch of prudes, all manga/anime is hentai, etc. |

Yeah, that IS rather vague. Even shounen series won't be able to escape it. |

I just wanna make sure here, Andy: Are the disgusting criminal deviants the dudes who buy ecchi, or the people who stray within fifty feet of anything even remotely related to anime whatsoever? I just wanna make sure that we're all on the same page here. |

Jackal, I've always wondered. Why do you randomly indent your posts? >_> I meant anybody anybody that's remotely interested in anime, but that's obviously a joke. While I do think anime is stupid as hell, it's hardly criminal. BUT IT IS NOW, DOHOHOHOHOHO. |

This is one of those 'not sure if want' things for me. For one, it may force them to actually do more than moemoe and eroero crap, and make anime for the most part GOOD again. On the other hand, it could kill it too. One thing is for certain - the PM of Japan SLAMMED them for this law, if what I read on sankaku is correct. He is not in favor of it AT ALL. |

Despite not knowing what 'moemoe' or 'eroero' means, if it's whatever 95% of all anime these days is, then Role and I share viewpoints here. I'm pretty sure 'eroero' has something to do with "erotic," and I can guess that 'moemoe' means "annoying as hell stupid shit." |

Basically, moemoe is that cute shit that got old after the second show that did it. The eroero crap is the anime that is basically just short of porn (or in one case, IS porn). In otherwords, I hope that this law gives a SERIOUS shock to the anime system, so that they start going back to things that matter, like STORY, before slowly getting back to more mature themes. Mature themes are fine, as long as it's not there for the sake of it. As long as the law is repealed in a timely manner so that the shock can be recovered from in the proper manner, it should be good. |

Anything that's bad for Anime as is is good in my book. Content aside, animators work something like 18 hour days (10 hours of overtime) adding up to less than $4/hr. Average burnout is about 8 months per animator. So yeah, the industry is deeply flawed ANYWAYS. |
