IMO, it all went downhill with XI. Not only should it have been a sideseries, not a numbered title, but it's pretty much where everything fell apart. XII got outsourced to the Tactics Team, and while being a great Ivalice game, wasn't exactly what most people were expecting from a core game - and it suffered because of it. XIII went from development hell to 'what the hell am I playing' real fast, and XIV is just a joke, and a LOT of people suspect it was developed in china, not in japan, and even site reasons (example: Chocobos being initially called horsebirds. While that's what they're called in china, they're called Chocobos in japan). They have two choices. 1: Kill final fantasy. Give the Tactics Team their own moniker, probably incorporating Ivalice int he title name. 2: Make an apology game. A DAMNED GOOD ONE. This will HAVE to pretty much embody everything that made final fantasy great. Basically, either make XV "better than 7", or not at all. |

Where was this confirmed? I suspected it to begin with, but who's to say it won't be released in the US as well? |

Well the announcement only came from Squeenix Japan's twitter, which is of course for their Japanese releases, and considering the long list of Squeenix games that have been released on PSN there and not here (heck, even FFVIII and FFIX had a very long delay between JP and NA releases on PSN if I remember correctly), it's not unreasonable to assume the same here. |

Stop crushing my hopes ![]() ;_; If it doesn't come to the US soon though, I'll just buy a physical copy. Haven't legally owned that game in years. |

Why is it the self-proclaimed RPG lover hates the mainstream RPG series'? D:< |

I love RPGs, but that doesn't mean I'm irrational about my love. I may still try them out and try to like them but a bad game or a subpar game is still a bad or subpar game, no matter how you look at it. Final Fantasy peaked at IX, in my opinion, and while X was good it was the last good one. Things like TA2 were good spin offs, and there are exceptions to the rule like the aforementioned TWEWY and DQIX (the latter of which was outsourced to Level 5 anyway), but by and large most of the new titles Square Enix has come up with in that time are average at best. So many games released of all styles and genres in the 360 generation, yet so few of them are any good. Final Fantasy hasn't been good since X - passable at times, but rarely good. We've had re-release after re-release of older games, to the point where it's starting to make them grow really stale, and very little of the new ground they cover seems to work. I'm an RPG lover, yes, but that doesn't mean I will love a meh game just because it's an RPG. I'll take Persona, I'll take Golden Sun, I'll take Mass Effect, etc. in this day and age because those are good games. I usually won't take Square Enix games because they're not. |

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me that literally every Dragon Quest game is developed by a non-Squeenix entity, so you can't even give them credit for those! |

I was referring to Pey, Delf. =P Since he was probably gonna lay on the DQ hate. He doesn't even like most FFs. =X |

I meant that I was going to say that DQIX was developed by Level-5 and not Square Enix. |

Fine then. At least Squeenix took part in it. But yeah I won't deny Squeenix has been doing badly lately. Which is why they must improve. And they should start by giving us DQVI dammit >:U |

I have yet to play VI, VII or VIII. And I hear they're all great. You could start with IX, it is a lot of fun. Frustrating at times, though. I hope you like loads of grinding! =D |

DQVI is a generally enjoyable game and had the first real incarnation of modern Dragon Quest job systems, which I really enjoyed since I'm a sucker for that kind of customisation and ability spamming. DQVII evolved on that, but it also was ABSOLUTELY HUGE as a video game. And I'm not necessarily talking about the good kind of huge... I'm talking that I just eventually ran out of steam and stopped playing about 40 or 50 hours into it when I realised I still had a long way to go to finish it. There is just so much in that game that it gets overwhelming, and there are times when it just isn't fun enough, especially during sudden and abrupt difficulty spikes. Also, even using a guide, I didn't get to the point where you fight your first battle for TWO HOURS OF GAMEPLAY, so it has a very slow start. The job system is fairly similar to VI though and you might end up enjoying it, regardless. I still want to go back and replay one day. VIII changed things up with the job system and gave you a skill point system similar to IX... but everyone has their set classes which you can't change around, so the customisation was comparatively limited. You also levelled slowly so there were times when it didn't feel as if you were doing anything or accomplishing much at all, just spamming X to victory for twenty hours straight (which is where I got bored and stopped, about halfway through the plot). Story and characters are a bit better than the average DQ and it is a good game, but yeah, got tired of it too easily. So of all those... I'd recommend that you play V, which is just a better game. But if I have to pick from these three, go VI. Has the best balance of gameplay and story and lack of overwhelming longevity that makes your head spin. |

FFIV compilation trailer released: Cecil looks like a woman, but the graphics are still awesome. Perhaps even better than FFIVDS' opening FMV. Also, the in-game graphics are pretty cool as well. |

This is what happens when Yoshitaka Amano gets to draw the character art. Overworld graphics looked to be a little bit more in line with FFVI-style stuff, the characters didn't fit entirely into single tiles. EDIT: [radio edit]ING FINALLY |
