I've been a huge fan ever since I got Morrowind for the PC when it first came out by accident (and then found out my Pentium-II processor couldn't run it, and was stuck not playing it until we upgraded to a new computer). In any case, I loved Morrowind, have modded the hell of the game (mostly with the Tamriel Rebuilt project and texture replacers), and when I got Oblivion, it was rather fun, actually, even though I think Morrowind is a more interesting province to explore, due to the very foreign culture it has.

I've played Arena briefly, but I couldn't manage the controls well on DosBox. I've never played Daggerfall, Redguard, Battlespire, or Keys. I'd like to, though, and I've read up on all the lore (I actively read the lore on the Wiki).

I'm stoked for ES:V.

Daggerfall is actually out for freeware now on the Bethesda site, just like Arena.

I know!

But since I had trouble running Arena on DosBox on my mac before, I haven't gone about trying for Daggerfall. I'm also busy lately, and can't play much video games (lest they're on handhelds that I can pull out at odd moments like on train rides or on lunch lines).

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

I've literally never gotten out of the dungeon you start in in Daggerfall.

Morrowind's the best, Oblivion's not bad either though. If this game has Oblivion's combat, but adds back some of the more "fun" stuff that I liked from Morrowind like Levitate and throwing stars, and has a neat environment and culture (I liked Morrowind much better than Oblivion in this regard), and makes it so that you don't have to level up perfectly to stand a chance against monsters, it would be awesome.

The dungeon is actually not hard at all, it's just big and confusing, like all the other ones. The map being retarded doesn't help, either.

Getting lost wasn't the problem, dying was the problem.

This pleases Delfeir. Knew it was coming, but it's nice to actually see a proper reveal at last.

Like the crowd here, I played and adored the hell out of Morrowind, mostly because the culture and world was so unique and interesting compared to the generic fantasy setting that Oblivion gives out. Plus it wasn't dumbed down for consoles in that a lot of the skills and factions and guilds and extra things you can do weren't cut or downsized like they were in Oblivion... it just allowed for so much more exploration, flexibility, customisation etc. that made the world feel more alive than IV. As has been said, though, the general game mechanics and combat have been improved so much in Oblivion that it makes Morrowind harder to play nowadays.

So I'm hoping we find a good middle ground for this one. And DRAGONS. Looking forward to this.

Man, i've tried to play Morrowind again over the past few years, and I just can't do it. The game goes so slow if you don't pick Athletics as a major/minor skill because you just move like you're permanently in molasses, I swear.

NEVER train Athletics or Acrobatics as a Major/Minor skill in TES:III.

You level up too fast, and don't actually train what's important. Sure, you're slow in the beginning, but the game gets faster and faster. Besides, there's plenty of ways to fast travel. And moving slowly gives a sense of the game being bigger than it actually is.

In any case, I actually think some of the skill condensation in TES:IV is great: Short Blade and Long Blade into Blade was pure gold, in my opinion. Of course, the loss of things like Spear hurt, but for the most part, I liked the mechanical changes in Oblivion. Morrowind just had a much more unique culture, story, and mixture of different cultures. You'd think that in the Imperial Province, you'd see a mixture of all the different cultures of the empire. But instead, you get bland Romanesque/Medieval/Renaissance cultures. Also, it was supposed to be steaming jungles in most of the province in previous games (like in Arena), and yet, it's mostly temperate woodlands.

Don't get me wrong: Oblivion is beautiful. And it feels more like classic D&D fantasy than Morrowind, which is great too, since I like that stuff too. Just not quite the sense of owning the setting. Morrowind, because of its status as a conquered state, has an interesting relationship between local and foreign styles and cultures. It's one of the most interesting provinces to me.

I'm glad they're going to Skyrim next. There's such a wealth of history in Skyrim, and yet the province has been written off, for the most part, as a snowy wasteland. Hammerfall, High Rock, Cyrodiil, and Morrowind have the most "culture mixed with wilderness." Summerset feels like it would be mostly just elven culture, with little dangerous wilderness. Elsweyr, Valenwood, Black Marsh, and Skyrim are like more of the wild provinces, and I think they can do with some fleshing out. Skyrim especially, since snowy wastelands doesn't make much of a story, but there's so much you can draw on. Especially since the sagas of old came from lands similar to what they based Skyrim on.

I enjoyed Bloodmoon. That was but an expansion pack, yet it really showed off what you could end up doing in a snowy wasteland. The Raven Rock faction or whatever the name of it was was one of my favourites to join and quest for. As such, I'm totally down for Skyrim.

Now that Gwydd brought it up, actually, I'd love to see Elsweyr and Black Marsh as settings, with the Sommerset Isles right behind it because i'm a sucker for big island-type deals. It helps that Oblivion had some bits of dialogue wherein the citizens (yes, lolcitizens) talked about Daedra worship increasing, that felt like a huge hook to me saying "Hey, guys, we're going to Altmer lands next!"

Actually, I think what pissed me off the most about Morrowind was that you don't explore all of Morrowind, just Vvardenfell.

Man, now I want to boot up Arena again and explore all of Tamriel.
