The Serpent of Gaia Rock; Anyone tried this?

I am playing through TLA again in preparation for Dark Dawn and I'm up to the Izumo subplot. I was just wondering, has anyone attempted/is it even possible to defeat the serpent without climbing Gaia Rock first and shining the light on it? If so, does anything change dialogue-wise after the event? If no one knows, I might have to try this myself...

I doubt there'd be any dialogue change, but maybe it's possible with summon rushing?

It's been done, but it's pretty hard from what I gather, and probably isn't worth the trouble. I doubt anything changes dialogue-wise, but then again, I can't remember if the dialogue following the battle refers to the serpent drinking out of the bowl or not.

That's what made me think of it. The dialogue refers both to the serpent drinking the Dragonsbane and the party climbing to the top of the mountain.

How much HP does it have at full strength?

Not sure, but by taking a quick peek on GameFAQs, I found out that you need near (if not) max stats, all characters at level 99, and all three class-changing items in order to do it. And I'm not sure if it's impossible on every other mode, but the person in question did it on Easy.

It must have a LOT of HP then. I was thinking if it's possible to obtain at least 4 of each type of Djinni before the Serpent, then summoning each level 4 summon twice (second time with boosted elemental power) could do around 4000-ish damage to it.

*starts a new file to speed-through to Izumo*

You could probably do that, but the problem is that he heals a crazy amount after every turn.

Thanks Poui.

...He heals to full after every turn, dude. Need to one-turn KO the Serpent if you're going to kill it at all.

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

FWIW, Easy mode's enemy stats are exactly the same as Normal mode, just that you carry over your party's stats. So it would be possible on Normal, it would just take a lot longer to grind up to that point if you wanted to do it without cheating.

Checked; the Serpent apparently has 3536HP.

Even at full strength? I wonder how much each level-4 summon does to it, if it's in the neighborhood of 1k damage, then it's definitely possible.

I will let everyone know when I hit Izumo and see if I can do it myself.

Thanks Poui.

After a few Thors, Thor should be doing about a 1200 damage, but do note that the Serpent moves like 3 or 5 times when he's nto weakened at all.

It IS possible! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RuF5hYYbtc

Possible on hard too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whtmiDjDvF0

This guy has levels of around 25 on both modes.

Well, I finally managed it on Normal mode, with levels around 30 after heavy grinding. I intentionally avoided going into Aqua or Air's rock for double the lulz. 4 djinn of each element were on standby when I went into the battle, the initial summons weren't enough to kill it but I used healing items/Djinn/etc to keep my party completely alive for enough turns to summon the level 4 summons a second time, which was enough to kill it with the elemental boost from the first summon. No dialogue changed, but it was pretty funny when Jenna is going on about "Gaia Rock is just like the other elemental rocks we've seen across Weyard" when we hadn't seen them yet. XD

Nice bro, boosting the elemental power was probably the only thing that let you win, because it adds like 200 damage to each summon.

I remember I started writing a fanfic about the Mikage Serpent vs the Doom Dragon. I wonder what happened to it...?

Good. Now do it on Hard mode. ON A LOW LEVEL GAME!

No, I didn't honestly do that, because I doubt it's possible >__>

That's impossible, Menaeus. Beating Serpent at full strength requires you to use summons. The rules of the inepts run prohibit you from using summons.
