Nothing to siege here, move along.

So. Gwydd and I have been talking, and we decided to host a Pokemon tournament. Or rather, tournaments. Wi-fi is required, obviously. Please note, this is for both casual and meta gamers.

There will be three tournaments, which will be held simultaneously.

These tournaments will be held as single battles. If all goes well, we may host a double battle version for those who wish it.

GENERAL RULES

-You have until the 1st of December, this year, to have your teams ready.

-Each match will have a week to be completed. If it is not, both competitors will be disqualified. If one member cannot do it, they or their opponent should notify us so that we can move the tournament to the next round. Please note that this may or may not result in the person who cannot battle being disqualified, see tourney specific rules for details.

-Every match MUST be uploaded to Wi-Fi by one of the involved parties, so that Gwydd and I can settle disputes regarding tournament specific rules.

-We ask for volunteers to help resolve disputes concerning Gwydd or myself. It's not fair for us to resolve disputes we are involved in. Yes, we're competing as well.

Tournament Specific Rules

First Tournament:

The Tourney of Heart!

Rules:

-This tournament will be run as a Round Robin. This means that everyone will battle everyone else once, instead of being eliminated upon losing. The winner is the competitor with the most battles won at the end of the tournament.

-Each contestant will be allowed the use of a single, locked team of 6 Pokémon.Your team will be registered before entry, and everyone will know what your team is once the tournament begins.

-Under no circumstances are any contestants to spam techniques form smogon or shoddy. One or two that anyone could figure out on their own is fine, but explicitly using a competitive setup is not allowed. this tournament is keyed so that non-competitive members of the forum can have fun, and anyone found to be abusing advanced competitive techniques will be disqualified.

-Clarification: This doesn't mean that you can't use any movesets that mirror or are similar to a popular competitive technique; it just means that you shouldn't purposely build your team of all top-end Overused-Tier and Uber-tier Pokémon with their most popular moveset and item and nature and ivs and ability in a team-setup advised by the competitive scene websites.

-No two Pokémon in a team are to be the same. There are no restrictions on Pokémon allowed beyond those enforced by the game itself. There are no item restrictions, and two Pokemon may hold the same item.

Second Tournament:

The Tourney of Soul!

-This tourney is slightly more competitive. The losers of the first round will battle each other off to the side as the winners duke it out in round two, and the losers who lose in the loser round would fight each other as well, while the winners battled the losers from round two, and so on, thus making it so that most competitors battle to the end, without needing to battle everyone else. This would also automatically rank them, without the need to count wins or losses. (I will attempt to provide visual aid at some point, to help explain it better)

-Each competitor will be allowed the use of a team of ten Pokémon, which will be registered, and shown to all when the tourney begins. Each battle, they will choose 6 of those ten to battle with, formatting their team to counter the choices they think their opponent will make.

-Advanced competitive techniques are allowed, but they are not to be abused. Those found to be abusing competitive strategies against casual players will be disqualified.

-No two Pokémon on a team may be the same. No two held items may be the same. No legendaries allowed.

Third Tournament:

The Tourney of Mind!

-The most competitive tournament. You only get one chance. If you lose your first battle, you're out, sorry.

-Each competitor will be allowed the use of a locked team of six Pokémon, which will be shown to all other players when the tournament begins. As the tournament progresses, movesets and held items may also be revealed.

-If a competitor is in a different tournament as well, they may not use a Pokémon they have submitted in the other tourney(s).

- Restrictions: No Pokémon that are currently categorized in the Uber-tier by Smogon University standards. This means, at this point in time, no usage of: Arceus (of any forme); Darkrai; Deoxys (of any forme); Dialga; Garchomp; Giratina (of either forme); Groudon; Ho-oh; Kyogre; Latias; Latios; Lugia; Manaphy; Mew; Mewtwo; Palkia; Rayquaza; Salamence; Shaymin (Sky Forme); Wobbuffet; or Wynaut. Any of the forementioned mons highlighted in bold are non-legendaries but are considered off-limits due to either their extreme potency in the competitive environment (i.e., 'chomp and 'mence), or their sheer annoyance for all sides due to Shadow Tag ability. As for items, anything goes.

OTHER NOTES

I reserve the right to edit this post at any time, without notifying the conpetitors. It is the responsibility of the competitors to ensure that they are up to date with the current version of the rules.

Why are we requiring teams to be revealed beforehand? Well, I initially had some good reasons, but with some new information regarding Gen V, I'll just say that I'm conditioning you for B/W.

SO....

Who wants in?

PLEASE INCLUDE THE GAMES YOU ARE ENTERING WITH, AND THE FRIENDCODES OF SAID GAMES.

Let's just wait and see what happens.

I'm in, totally. Question is whether I want in the first one or the second one. I'll think over whether I can make the second work.

I'd attempt this if I wasn't too lazy to level my team above 70 :U

Um, what? you DO know that the games auto change your level to 50 or 100 in Wi-fi, depending on the setting, right?

Time, mostly. No guarantee that I'd be able to fight my battles for both tourneys in a given week, and I don't much like the idea of letting down someone who was expecting a fight from me. I can do one of 'em just fine, but both is pushing it a bit.

Anime was a mistake

I'd love to do this, if it weren't for the fact that I don't own a DS.

Can I have a bit of clarificatipn on rules on the first two? I'm gessing, say, that Swords Dance would e right for both of them, same goes with Stealth Rock (though I wouldn't use it). Where would things like Sub Punching, or SubSeed, or Swift Swim, or Stallrein, go?

Oh, by the way, please edit your posts with the games you are entering with, and the friendcodes of said games.

Yeah, you can use more than one game, one for each tourney. Or one for all of them. whichever.

I'll make a list later.

And talk to Gwydd about meta stuff.

EDIT: Meta movesets are ok, for the most part, so long as your entire team isn't set up as one big meta thing. So like, no three-mon-long setups and stuff. Although some meta movesets WILL be disqualified, but again, talk to Gwydd about that. I'll poke him to respond to these questions sometime tomorrow.

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

I don't have any Pokemon games with me here at school, so I can't participate, but I have to say that outright dismissing "smogon movesets" is kinda dumb. That's such a vague qualification. Same with "abusing" strategies versus "using" strategies in the second round. So what, is Stealth Rock automatically banned because almost everyone uses it competitively?

Also, concerning the "must upload to wi-fi" rule--do Diamond and Pearl have that option? I don't have mine with me to check but I think that was only added for Platinum and beyond.

Smogon has covered pretty much every moveset in game.
So using an obvious moveset gets you banned?
Like Swords Dance/Bullet Punch Scizor?

Oh, something else I forgot. If I have my understanding of the second tournament right, it's just a double-elimination bracket, correct?
