So I came upon this awesome fan game known as Barkley Shut Up And Jam Gaiden. It's a JPRG where Charles Barkley is the main character. Hold on, don't go anywhere, it's actually MUCH better than it sounds (and indeed, it's listed as TV Tropes as exactly such). The opening sequence states thus: Warning: The article you are about to read is canon. "The Great B-Ball Purge of 2041, a day so painful to some that it is referred to only as the 'B-Ballnacht'. Thousands upon thousands of the world's greatest ballers were massacred in a swath of violence and sports bigotry as the game was outlawed worldwide. The reason: the Chaos Dunk, a jam so powerful its mere existence threatens the balance of chaos and order. Among the few ballers and fans that survived the basketball genocide was Charles Barkley, the man capable of performing the 'Verboten Jam'..." That should probably give you an idea of the kind of game this is. There are plenty of humorous parts in the story (and doesn't require a knowledge or even a liking of basketball); really, it's one long Crowning Moment of Funny and an affectionate parody of 16 bit JPRGs. Also, it's actually really fun. Standard attacks are done Paper Mario style, using action commands, and each character has several different variations of a standard attack. Skills are also present however, and while those are automatic, they get the job done. ...Really, you have to play this to believe it. I cannot truly describe this game in one short summary, but basically, if you like JRPGs, action commands (they aren't hard like, say, Sonic Chronicles), good gameplay, and humor, then give this a shot. If it helps, it's been described as something to the effect of "Final Fantasy VI meets Space Jam." Oh, and Space Jam is canon here, so. Oh, and the music isn't bad either, but don't expect the art to blow you away. Download it for free here. |

I was hyping this game like half a year ago, man. Get with the times. Actually I think I mentioned it not too long ago in a post. I think I was telling Werebarret that he should play it. EDIT: Oh also almost all the sprites and music are just taken from other video games, so yeah EDIT AGAIN: Oh and best character = Save Pump AND ONE MORE TIME: Ah, here's the post I made about it, it was from June. |

I hope you didn't give the kid at the beginning any money or else you can't go to the optional dungeon at the end of the game. Yep. EDIT: Though the optional place isn't that great aside from the humor. |

I've heard of this game but I don't think I ever even considered actually playing it. Buuut this is a pretty glowing review... maybe once my current backlog dies down a bit. |

You and Boyd should be sacrificed. The BEST GAME EVER is obviously Golden Sun. All of them. I hereby accuse you both of blaspheming against Kraden! |

Okay so I finished this yesterday. Not very long for a JRPG, of course, but it was fun while it lasted. So upon beating the game if you start a new file you get the "Victorian Steampunk" option, where all of the character's portraits (but sadly not the sprites) and names (the important ones, anyway), are Victorian style. Charles Barkley becomes "Sir Bakley" and wears a top hat and monocle ![]() But yeah, at some point I'ma try this again and try for the bonus dungeon :U |

Hmm, I'll look in to this game sometime. But like Delf, I'm gonna wait until my current backlog dies down a bit. |

It's less than ten hours long so it's not like it's gonna pile up your backlog even further or anything. |
