Sleeping dream selves, meanwhile, stay in existence while their real selves are awake.

I'd say their towers, but John's is gone, so idk :/ That's about the impression I got. When they wake up, normally their dream selves vanish and appear back in their towers, sleeping. Since John no longer has a tower, his dream self just winks out of existence until he sleeps again.
