Finally started reading from the start yesterday, made it to the beginning of Act 4 before the headache became too great to bear. Just sort of breezing along the comic before I start worrying about puzzling it all together. Consequently, I don't get the Exiles' storyline, or the Midnight Crew's (though I'm pretty sure that's because I skipped Problem Sleuth), but I figure I can go back to that later. First three acts were more engaging than I'd been led to believe by some of the fandom. Heck, most of the human characters are more engaging than I'd been led to believe by some of the fandom (of course, Homestuck fandom is exactly like Touhou fandom in that the VAST MAJORITY of what you see is RULE 34 in action and completely unrelated to the actual series, which did not surprise me at all). Jade kind of lost me, but I get the impression that she's supposed to be that way. Dave kind of lost me partly because of the ironic rap ninja culture (which I suspect is also supposed to be that way), but mostly because he keeps whining about the heat, and as a Houstonian myself I find it hard to believe that a FIERY APOCALYPSE is any hotter than, oh, mid August or so. If anything, it'd be an excuse for a barbecue. On the other hand, John and Rose and their respective family issues got me right in the heartstrings. Especially Rose, because that is exactly what my depression did to how I saw my family not very long ago. It made me go hug my mom, who looked at me like I was insane. Overall, I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but game mechanics and bright colors and lovable cheap characters are endearing to me. |

Got sufficiently drunk tonight to finish Act 4 and begin Hivebent, had to stop because work tomorrow and because Gamzee's typing pattern was getting hard to read. On the other hand, the plot's starting to make more sense and BABY BRO STOP PLAYING IN THE BROKEN GLASS and then Con Air and I think I died laughing. Went into Tavros & Jade's first conversation with each other expecting hilarity and awkwardness and instead I got kicked in the feels. By a freakin' paraplegic. |
