I say female. Male protagonists are overdone; not enough females. =X |

I prefer female protagonists in fiction, but I don't mind male protagonists. What matters more to me are how protagonists act.

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

As long as they're interesting and believable, I couldn't care less. |

As long as it's a female protagonist that doesn't get bogged down by romance, I have no preference, yeah. |

gog damn I hate this so much. It's like what the hell, I thought I bought a video game, not Romeo and [radio edit]ing Juliet. |

I don't find anything particularly wrong with romance (in some cases I'm more likely to play/read/participate in if it's present honestly, I'm a sap) but if it's just in there for the sake of having a romance and not having an independent female protagonist then yeah, it sucks. But otherwise? No preference. The gender doesn't enter into it for me, it's more about whether or not they're interesting. |

I said the poll was sexist, not the poll-maker. Also, it was a voting choice. |

In anything but video games? I don't care. In video games, however, I prefer male protagonists. I'd say 99% of female protagonists are either really washy and whiny or the super badass silent female that might as well be a guy anyway. |

I never got the mindset of people who complain about the lack of female protagonists, then when we get some they complain essentially because the character is too feminine. Like Miral said, if the character is just a guy with boobs, then what's the point? I tend to prefer females because the heroic female body type lends itself more to speed and agility, which are the physical attributes I prefer in a combat character, while male characters tend more toward strength, which I generally don't care about. |

That's mostly what I mean, yeah. I like romance to be natural above all, not feel like it was shoved in to fill some kind of quota.
Boobs, obviously.

That's kind of what I was going for too; with a female character, you're more likely to have a romance just tacked on than actually developed, AND this also runs the risk of her becoming too stereotypically dependent on the male in question. I mean, heck, look at how many heroines get kidnapped these days. |
