Yeah, I don't imagine my driving lessons to go well, if frank. XD Of course, transport is so strong and constant here that there's actually little need for a license in my eyes IMO. But I'll get one anyway for convience's sake. |

clearly the solution here is to just eliminate speed bumps altogether and ban pedestrians. |

Redundant =P But yeah you have a good point. England's public transport is pretty good. It's one of the things they DO give thought to over here xP |

*high fives back* And going back to the subject of potholes, really big ones can mess up your car, so yeah, most people would go around them altogether, like Crash said :U |

Considering I LIVE in Vancouver and haven't heard anything about this, I think it's just the crazy private schools trying something new on the rich side of town (which would be west van for those of you who aren't familiar with my city). I dunno what I think about it, but I DO know that ICBC's been cranking up enforcement and fines for all driving codes and laws, so this's probably a private reaction to the hikes and an attempt to deter people from speeding. Frankly I think it'll take time before Robertson (vancouver's mayor) dares speak of painting children on the street (he's already having a hard enough time with bike lanes and Olympic overruns). Still, at the same time I think anyone who believes in the 'cry wolf' effect is being silly. Any diver can tell the difference between a real child and a static image, and if they can't then, as the article says, they don't belong on the road. The fear instead should be that people will memorize where the painted kids are and learn to ignore the illusion (it doesn't sound like there's an actual bump under it so lolidunnohowthatworks). Also, if they try putting it into use in any other areas around Vancouver and the local municipalities, they'd have to factor in the costs of repainting each child after the rainy season, nevermind the rampant tagging that goes on everywhere that isn't Rich and Whiney West Vancouver. |

XDDD Driving's not as death-is-nigh as one might think it is, even if you do happen to look at something on the side of the road, your won't necessarily crash. It's like walking in a crowd of people, you know where your body is in relation to others so you are able to keep from bumping in to them, even if you can't see them for a second. And besides, because you are driving, you automatically know to pay more attention and to not spend a lot of time on distractions. And I say this as a spacy, easily-distracted person. |
