OKAY. So, right now I'm at this place where there's no dishwasher. So it all has to be cleaned by hand. See, my entire life it's been the rule 'you cook, and if someone else eats as well, they clean' but HERE - still a place my family lives - the rule seems to be 'Ulta does all the cooking and Ulta does all the cleaning' SERIOUSLY. I FEEL LIKE AS THOUGH I'M CINDERELLA OR SOMETHING. I'm not even kidding. The people here are willing to start DRAMA over this to get their way. Last time I was here Sally cleaned something she was supposed to have cleaned the night before, and I'd cooked lunch and EVERYONE ate and then they told ME to clean it up. Their logic? 'WHY SHOULD SALLY HAVE TO CLEAN EVERYTHING? DURR HURR HURR' The favoritism is blatant and annoying. I mean really. Okay, that was weeks ago. I'd forgotten about it. Moved on. Drama in this place is about as common as it can get without being innately suffocating. So I wake up to the sounds of people trying to figure out who should cook waffles. Me being the nice, respectful, and kind person I am, I offer to make it. The immediate response? A nasty-toned 'No, I don't want [Ulta] cooking anything, because [Ulta] won't clean up later.' I mean, I'll clean my plate - that's not what they're talking about. They want me to clean up everything. The stuff used to make the food, my own plate. Hell, maybe even THEIR plates if they're feeling lazy enough to force it. So then I sit down on my laptop and do stuff for a few hours. And I'm still stewing over the utter bullshit of this place. So now I figure my only hope to not have to clean everything ever is to just not eat while I'm here. Luckily enough for me tonight I have a party to go to and there will be pizza. Glorious pizza. What do I do about these people? |

Me, I'd suggest blatant and obnoxious passive-aggressive behavior. Of course, it's probably only going to make you feel better in the short run and not solve the actual problem, but it sure feels satisfying when you're doing it. Of course, this only works if the people will actually be affected by it. You could always go on a cooking strike and/or only make enough food for just you and then only clean the dishes when you've used them. But, again, may not be practical for your situation. Finally, you could, of course, punch them in their snouts to establish dominance.

I think I shall make myself waffles. Three of them. None for them. And then I shall clean it. And when they ask me for waffles I'll tell them NO, NONE FOR YOU FOR YOU ARE ASSHOLES >:3 |

See, the problem I have with that is a little while after I'm done yelling, I feel bad for raging/attacking someone like that and end up feeling terribly guilty. I'll be all "I'M SORRY I WAS OUT OF LINE I WAS JUST STRESSED AND ANGRY BUT THAT'S NO EXCUSE" So like yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaah. |

I'm a rational person so I decided not to go through the task of making waffles I don't want just to spite people. Instead, I'm making myself velveeta. Sally will ask to have some velveeta but she's not going to get any velveeta. None of the velveeta. |

Yeah, same. I think we're a bit TOO soft XD That said, Ulta, how about trying calmly chatting to them how unfair you think this is? I mean, I know it might not work but it's worth a try, huh? :\ |

I'm glad I lack this handicap. Anyway. Do what you've just started doing; make stuff only for yourself. I'm pretty sure that you're not being paid to be a cook, so if they want you to make something, you don't have to. You don't have to be passive agressive about it like Draco said but eh, whatever works for you. Alternatively, next time they pull stuff like this, put them in their place and yell at them

Trying to talk calmly gets perceived as yelling and screaming right back. Usually in a much nastier tone than they give and any slight real or imagiend is my fault because I'm obviously such a [radio edit]. |

What I would do is pretend to be a zombie. Like walk out of where ever I am and take a stroll for like ten minutes the instant everyone is complaining about how hungry they are yet nobody wants to cook. Then if they are still hungry when you come back, just start making food. Without saying anything. And it has to smell super awesome, too. If they are like "Oh how nice, Ulta's making food for everyone." Don't correct them. Make enough only for yourself, then eat it. And while they're all RAWR ULTA DIDN'T MAKE FOOD FOR US, just be like, "You never told me to." or like "I never said I was making any for you." But don't look directly at them and just keep eating. Then clean your plate and such and read a book or play a game or something. And never speak of it again. That'll teach 'em :3 |

People are. I just don't expect to have to cook something in a pot and then have to clean the pot when five other people also ate out of said pot. Of course I'm going to clean my own dishes - though, note, the majority of us grew up with a dishwasher so that point was moot for most of our lives. |

Then I don't get your point. What, you expect five people to clean out the pot at the same time? |
