I like pretty much all literature. And I would not call Sci-Fi or Fantasy or Historical Fiction a literature genre. But perhaps there's a confusion of terminology. The term literature is much harder to define and should not refer to reading books in general. Novel is a similar nebulous term. Genre ≠ Literature. In fact, Literature is opposite of Genre Fiction. For example, Lord of the Rings is literature, while The Wheel of Time is Genre fiction. This is not to say that I dislike Genre Fiction. Just that it has it's place, and Genre Fiction is not Literature. It takes a great work to rise above the barrier between genre fiction and true literaturedom. And the thing is? No one person can make that decision, because one person's definition of junk is another's definition of treasure. But that doesn't mean everything is equally good or bad, and that we can't say anything about anything (the worst thing that has come out of Postmodernism, though many good things have come as well), because there are standards we can uphold them too, and there are qualitative differences. Just not necessarily quantitative. |

I don't really have a favorite literary genre. I'll read pretty much anything, assuming I'm even in the mood to read something. |

I prefer my fiction on film. Reading is for edification, which is why 99% of what I read is history or biography. I think I read maybe one novel a year, and even then what fiction I do read tends to be classical mythology. |
