I'm not gonna vote either because it depends on what they're being used for. Silly question if you ask me >___> |

Note to hippies: Plastic shopping bags are recyclable, y'know. Also I answer plastic to both questions: I hate carrying cash and paper shopping bags are too hard to carry. |

Plastic. Less likely for the handles to break on you. And I hate it when that happens. |

Plastic is recyclable, yes, but it doesn't biodegrade like most other materials. Plus, the biodegradable bags that were introduced several years ago can be said to be even more troublesome as they're not compatible with conventional recycling systems and can pretty much render entire batches of other recyclable plastic useless. It takes over a year for most to breakdown, so who knows where they will be in that time if they're littered. And well, there's a lot of contamination involved in the process with either type of bag. They say that somewhere in the middle of the ocean, there's a huge pile of floating plastic that is as big as the state of Texas. I don't like paper, either, so that's why I opt for the reusable bag. And yes, Boyd, people do use them. |

Oh yeah, Trash Island. It's actually quite a bit bigger than that now, if my memory is correct. Of course, it's much more than just plastic in there. |

Oh, I forget to mention. I'm not sure if this is Toronto or Ontario or Canada or WHAT, but plastic bags are 5 cents if you need one. It's part of the being environmentally friendly around here, I think. So, a lot more people use their own bags now, especially if it's for groceries. Why pay fifteen to twenty cents of plastic bags for groceries when you can just use more durable, bigger, reusable cloth/canvas/whatever ones? So, yeah. |

The only problem with reusable cloth bags is that they can collect germs from meat if you don't wash them enough. |
