"Coincidentally" it barely featured Korra.

It didn't even mess up pre-existing canon in any egregious manner, as these type of origin stories often do.

Also answers why the Avatar ceases to exist if killed in the Avatar state-Raava dies so she can't link with Wan anymore. It did contradict existing canon a bit though. The various benders were meant to learn their bending from Dragons/Flying Bison/Badgermoles/The Moon, not Lion Turtles. Edit: Just realised that Wan DID learn from a Dragon, so my theory is that Firebending and simply controlling fire are differant. Remember how Vaatu was basically released because Raava was a racist? He gives a sob story and Raava just tells Wan to get lost. She probobly still has some reservations about fusing with a human and never being able to return to her true form.

He's helped her past the whole "she's dying and tiny" thing, and he's essentially throwing his own life away to right his wrongs.
