Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

I agree with almost everything Fluff said. The bands he lists are damn good. I just don't like Lady Gaga. \o/

I have trouble explaining this one, but I will lash out at you if you reduce that as just selling sex, that's what the Disney channels are for. The epistemology of sex itself is not just the most explicit contents of sex. Sex is linked with a lot of things in contemporary society, it's an issue of relationships, morality, identity, legality, etc. etc. contrary to what it was in ancient civilizations........actually, I'll avoid inputting too much of my political thoughts in here, but I will say that I find the non-explicit sexual crap sensationalized with a mystical layer of "love"(whatever that is under all those representations gushing with trivialities) to be much more dangerous in comparison to the blatant explicit ones.................Looks like I've already went too far, so I'll digress.

I'm more interested in Sclater's opinion here. I don't fully understand what he means since he cut himself off, but I think I might agree with him to a certain point.

If your taste in music doesn't agree with mine it obviously sucks and you should stop listening to your music.

We'll just say they're the same and that everyone else's taste in music must agree with ours and if it doesn't it sucks.

Seriously you guys? Shut the hell up about other music tastes being 'bad.' I pisses me off when people do that. It's [radio edit]ing dumb to say 'oh, my music is so much better, listen to it!' There's a reason that your taste in music is YOURS and not EVERYONE'S. It's fine if you're just suggesting music, but flat out insulting people based on their taste in music? Shut the [radio edit] up.
Musical quality isn't just a matter of opinion, you know. There are some things that do actually make good music, just like there are some things that do actually make good writing. The quality of a band isn't just subjective. You can actually objectively judge it to within a reasonable degree. There's bad music, just like there's bad writing. Twilight is bad writing, and...okay actually not even the stuff Insularity likes is as bad as Twilight. I'd like to say it's about as bad as Anne Rice, but I've never actually been desperate enough to read Anne Rice so I can't say.

Personal taste is totally your own thing, though. Radiohead is a very, very good band, but I hardly ever listen to them because I just don't really get anything out of it. Likewise, I don't listen to The Cure and R.E.M. very much because while they make great music, the performance style isn't always what I like to listen to. Frankly, I rarely listen to Lady Gaga. I like her, I just don't enjoy pop music.

The stuff I listed there isn't just my personal taste in music. There are plenty of other bands and artists I like that I could list; what I gave back there is just a base of the really good stuff. Listening to that is what'll pull your head out of your ass and let you develop actual musical taste for yourself, instead of that mass-produced teenie-bopper crap.

P.S. Insularity I will allow you to listen to Dave Matthews Band solely on the condition that you never talk about them or link me to their stuff. Every time I have to listen to his voice I go borderline homicidal. That is because of my personal taste in music, not a reflection of the band's quality. Okay maybe it's a reflection of the singer's quality but the music is still good enough.

P.S. Megadeth and Metallica are acceptable, but Slayer? Eh...if you say so. They're probably preferable to Slipknot.

Okay, but you still don't need to insult music that people do like. I don't insult people because they like Twilight, or really talk about Twilight with people that do enjoy the series, because it irritates me when people tell me that books that -I- enjoy, but most people don't, suck. It just seemed like you were being a [radio edit] about taste, like you always tend to be. (Aka that last line. Seriously? Was that necessary?)

And not EVERYONE is good at saying 'oh yeah the way they do such and such is sooo goood.' Most people just listen to a song and say 'Oh hey I like this, cool.'

*shrugs* I may agree with Spella to a point. S'fine that Fluff thinks certain bands or artists are shit, I think people don't always want to listen to the "actually good music" or whatever, 'cause there's so much out there to choose from, that's why we've got our opinions, right? I might look into the stuff people suggest, but I also think I'd be more open to suggestions if somebody told me that they simply disliked every single thing about what I listened to rather than go on about it. I mean, if you don't like it, why bother continuing a conversation about it? X3 My friend liking Twilight doesn't make her a moron. I just won't talk about it because I'd just end up exasparated and insulting their taste while they were similarly offended. Same with music. Sometimes you don't need technical excellence and perfect balance or exquisite composition skill. Maybe it just sounds nice to a particular person. Nothing wrong with that.

Regardless, bad music does exist. It's like a book full of typos. At least, that's the idea I get.
