You like music I deem as horrendous and therefore I will now shun you, disregard your opinion, and force my opinion onto you and you will swallow it gladly. (On a serious note I do think Linkin Park, Evanecence, and some of Paramore is shit. Can't say for Shannon Knoll as I've never heard of her.) |

Hey, hey, hey: wait a second here. I was the one who said he likes Lady Gaga in My older sister, who happens to be the same age as her, got me into her music. I think a highlight is Lady G and Elton John playing together. By the way, Michael Jackson said he wanted to do stuff with her musically. She was influenced by his style, and he was inspired by her. But then he died. She's quirky but original. She's revitalising the Pop Genre. And that's cool. And don't talk to me about having a song stuck in your head. We had to rehearse a dance for the play I was just in, and it was to Bad Romance… let's just say we heard the song repeated while learning the dance for FIVE HOURS strait. We wanted to kill the song after that, but we love it again now. Lady G's good. Edited by Gwydd, Jun 4 2010, 06:32 PM.

You have no idea as to what she does. Well, maybe not, but I find too many people dismissing explicit contents rather prematurely just for being explicit contents, that's hardly fair. I wouldn't say she sings about sex or penises, as I think it might have been mentioned at some point. In fact, the lyrics of most of her current songs(take telephone for example) hardly has any of it. Well I may be over analyzing this, I may be over-crediting her, but either way, I find enough appeal in it that I'm willing to defend her. One of the things that particularly stood out to me is her usage of the two discourses: spoken words/lyrics, and images/videos. Suffice to say....they....hardly(if at all) have anything to do with one another(I would say post-paparazzi anyway). That's one of the things I find appealing, while most artists would make the video to to enforce or depict and make vivid the contents of the songs themselves(I could refer to that as the general epistemology of music videos)........Lady gaga doesn't seem to be doing that. Her videos sets themselves apart as something different, but not exactly completely divorced from the songs either. But take the Telephone video for example. Try listen to just the song first. Then watch the video. Then watch a muted version of the video if you want. I don't know exactly what the point of that was. Her lyrics.....well I suppose this could basically be deconstructed into her singing about dancing in a club, you are calling me but I can't answer because I'm dancing so hard, etc. etc. While the video is just...all over the place, and it was explicit(though whether that's sexual is highly debatable). The spoken words doesn't enforce the images, they are just...there, in the background and it wasn't underplayed or overemphasized in anyway. I have trouble explaining this one, but I will lash out at you if you reduce that as just selling sex, that's what the Disney channels are for. The epistemology of sex itself is not just the most explicit contents of sex. Sex is linked with a lot of things in contemporary society, it's an issue of relationships, morality, identity, legality, etc. etc. contrary to what it was in ancient civilizations........actually, I'll avoid inputting too much of my political thoughts in here, but I will say that I find the non-explicit sexual crap sensationalized with a mystical layer of "love"(whatever that is under all those representations gushing with trivialities) to be much more dangerous in comparison to the blatant explicit ones.................Looks like I've already went too far, so I'll digress. *looks back* Well shit I got carried away with this. *sigh* Oh well, what's done can't be undone I expect the worst *press reply button* Edited by Tractatus, Jun 5 2010, 02:51 AM.

....either way, in case I still didn't clarify this(no, it's not directed at anyone in particular). I don't care if you think she is indecent, obscene, flat-out disgusting, or whatever the case maybe. That's hardly my business. But if you choose to try convey that with the language of objectivity on the basis that she is "sexual" or promotes profane sexuality in one way or another, is a generic/untalented sellout, or anything of the sort. Then we are going to have problems. |
