Yeah, I like stuff like FF and all that... but GS has a charm all it's own. And that charm is what makes it so amazing. I recently finished replaying GS:TLA and I enjoyed it a hell of a lot! Sign here if you agree GS is the Best RPG!

For different reasons, it's either GS/TLA or ToS/TotA for me. But what the hell, *signs* |

Eh, the only Tales game I played was Tales of Eternia. I do really want to play Symphonia though. |

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

I haven't played enough RPGs to say that they're objectively the best, but they've certainly been the most enjoyable for me. |

Someone needs to play Skies of Arcadia: Legends. But the GS games are pretty good, no denying that.

Usually I get bored with long games but the GS series inspired me to play from start to finish, defeat the optional bosses, and power train my characters when there was nothing left to do. They will probably be the games I spend the most time thinking of when reflecting on my childhood.

They're pretty awesome RPGs, but IMO, the best has to be Paper Mario. |

An RPG is a game where the main character swings a sword. ![]() No, seriously, my favorite RPG, since we're excluding a game where the main character swings a sword, has to be Book One of Golden Sun. I'm really not that big of a gamer, and the only real RPG's I've played are as follows: Golden Sun (Books One and Two) Final Fantasy Adventures Final Fantasy III Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance And that's it. Unless we're counting Pogeymanz. In which case I've played all but the games in Sinnoh. |

Regarding Zelda being an Adventure game - which I think it kinda is, but - you'd also have to ask yourself what is an RPG. If it's simply leveling up and gaining new spells, Link's new tunics and various weapons could count as leveling up, correct? And certainly the plot and dialogue of some of the later Zelda games near RPG proportions, and certainly more than say, FFI. Is it the gameplay that sets it apart? But the Tales of series has a similar almost-fighting game style. Is going into a "battle screen" the main difference between adventure games and RPGs? And yet recent RPGs have been moving towards a lesser battle screen role, and not-random encounters. What's everyone else's thoughts on this? =P |

WHAT THE HELL SHADOW, YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU PLAYED SHENMUE! *high five* Also Satty, while you may 'think' Link's way of leveling up is gaining new tools and equipments, that is not the same as you see it with other RPGs. Link does not have levels; only tools and equipment. Lots of heroes in video games also get these, like Dante and Kirby, for example. Kirby swallows an enemy and gains a power. Is that leveling up? Perhaps. But not in the RPG sense, which is usually done with numbers. Leveling up exists in all games, but they are different terms in each one. An RPG is generally turn-based. This is not true for say, Tales, but you go into a fight with an enemy to a group battle. That isn't the case with Zelda. The enemies and the world around you are one instead of going into a little flash and then a fight. His tools, while similar to that of say Staffs and Kendemas, are not the same. They're items, not weapons. Generally, a game is an RPG to me if... 1. Party members are included. 2. Turn-based/break from world battle system. 3. Lotsa spells and food! =P 4. Oh yeah plus 50 hours of gameplay. In the case of Pokemon, 200. 5. Leveling up with a number system with lots of stats. Though some strategy games have this as in the case of Fire Emblem. I see little of those traits in Zelda, so I don't consider it an RPG. Edited by Phoenix7, May 15 2010, 08:52 PM.
