The fact that the series is so short is a big plus for me actually. The badass female characters are appealing too. youtube vid I hadn't even heard of Canaan until this youtube video popped up in my feed. It's from one of my favorite amv artists and I love love love how she edited this. I swear it was the action and animation that got me interested in the show- not the yuri. Also considering that Canaan doesn't directly confront Alphard for more than just brief periods until like near the end it's hardly as noticeable up until that point. But then Alphard keeps grabbing Canaan and pulling her close so yeah. If you want to talk about subtle lesbianism, Canaan/Maria. Non-subtle? [radio edit]ing Liang Qi. ...Also the taxi driver is clearly the best character.
