What's Busou Renkin about?

(Also, if you're actually gonna read the VN, then hold off on watching the anime; you'll appreciate it more if you read the VN first).

TV Tropes

From the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, Busou Renkin (literally "Arms Alchemy") follows Hero and Ordinary High School Student Kazuki Muto as he journeys into the world of Alchemists and their Renkin as they fight the Homunculi. No, not the Fullmetal Alchemist ones, though there is definite overlap between the series theme wise. The series is in many ways a parody of the shonen genre (and Bleach in particular), and hence often has tongue planted firmly in cheek.

It's twenty-six episodes, has fun, likable characters, the fight scenes are cool, and the plot's not bad either.

Hm, okay, I guess I'll add that to the list of "things I need to watch once I finally get more alone time, Nyoro~n."

Busou Renkin is pretty enjoyable, but the ending felt really rushed. However, aside from the ending, it felt pretty well put together.

*is watching Angel Beats! right now* I like it. On episode seven.

Also, I don't like Naruto at all. It's too much fighting, not enough plot. And if what Squee's saying about characters is true, then there's no reason for me to push through and read/watch it. Folks can like it, but it's just not my thing.

:mercury_djinn: :mercury_djinn: :mercury_djinn:
I think Shippuden has more plot than the original. The original does have quite a lot of fighting.
That's exactly what I didn't like about Shippuden, to be honest. It's too much "Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke" and every fight has to have either Naruto or Sasuke in it, both of whom are insufferable characters. Too much of a deviation from the first part's constant matchups between different characters, and the plot makes me want to strangle just about every major character.

How's Soul Eater? I watched a video on Youtube showcasing one of the fights, and holy crap the animation was brilliant. I'm skeptical about the story and characters though. It seems like Bleach or Death Note only with little girls. Anyone wanna enlighten me?

I keep meaning to catch up, but I haven't watched it in about a year and the plot got eh. Also Deidara > Saucekay seriously that whole fight was just Deidara going *awesomes* and Sasuke going "YEAH BUT IT WAS ALL A DREAM LMAO im in a snake" ;_; anyway they should undo that fight and rename it Deidara Shippuden imo

It's not bad. The anime leaves off at a rather awkward point. The manga is still ongoing but it's going at a very slow rate.

The story is kind of lame, as with most shounen, but the cast and powers are interesting enough. It's a fairly above average generic shounen, if that makes sense. I think I gave it a 7/10.

Oh, and its cast is about 50% male 50% female, if you're worried about it being predominately female.

It's a bit shonen, but it likes to mess with some of the tropes you see a lot. For example, Black*Star is a Highly Visible Ninja, but he's supposed to be a parody of characters like Naruto and frequently gets called out on his lack of stealth and overconfidence. Also, unlike Naruto and Bleach, female Soul Eater characters can, and often do, kick gratuitous amounts of ass.

Also, you know how Naruto started out with the plot being "I want to be the Hokage" but we haven't heard anything more about it since then? Or how Bleach started as "You get to shepherd souls to the afterlife" but then dropped that premise like a game of FATAL? Soul Eater actually does a fairly good job of sticking with its characters' original goals.

As usual, I recommend reading the manga rather than watching the anime, because the anime diverges from the manga partway through and then has its own ending, which makes you miss a lot of plot twists. Like, actual twists, not "Hey guess what the 4th Hokage was Naruto's dad, fans totally didn't guess that years ago." These are really "Holy shit, didn't see that coming."

It has its weird moments, and the art style starts off kind of One Piece-esque. But if FLCL's weirdness didn't put you off, you shouldn't have a problem with this. It's mostly important to remember that like with Gurren Lagann, a lot of what Soul Eater does is parody, not supposed to be taken seriously.

Do any of you have an anime or manga list over at myanimelist.net? I just found the site the other day, and it seems like a good way to keep track of and share what you've seen.

If we're talking about Monster, then it's also good to note Pluto and 20th Century Boys.

Also, it's interesting to note that I've seen those books in my bookstore, the Physics and Statistics versions.

Sasuke does get too many hax. Heck, he even has...

Naruto spoilers

That Manda escape thing was also bullcrap, and was just an excuse so Kishi could keep him alive. As for Naruto being Hokage, he did actually mention it about one chapter ago (it was either in 497 or 498). I'm glad he doesn't mention it much anymore, though; his constant "I'M GONNA BE HOKAGE SOME DAY" was kind of annoying. Now he's just cool about it and doesn't seem to care very much.
