Oh my god the next episode of Fate/Zero is going to be amazing

Finally some action

But as for this one

-GASP, Archer's armor actually clinks when he moves!
-Rider continues to prove that he's the best character.
--"Kid, nobody cares about Assassin." God yes Rider you are amazing.
--Alexander the Great vs Bill Clinton go.
-lol, the midget Assassin.
-Oh Maiya, I almost forgot that kiss. Tsk tsk.
-On that note, that makes me notice that Kiritsugu's characterization suffers a bit here since most of it was via his own thoughts in the novels.
-Irisviell stop with the cute overload sd;lhfsd;lkfhdsfhds
-XFD CGI cars, really? Ufotable, I am disappoint.
-But I will forgive you for those sexy details on Archer's armor.
-...And if that was money saving to make the next episode as awesome as possible.

Let's see, I'll be following these inferior anime along side Penguindrum this season:

Fate/Zero
Persona 4
Chihayafuru
Mirai Nikki
Un-Go
And for now, the HunterxHunter remake thing....starting to regret it >_>

As it is now, I just might end up joining that Penguindrum bandwagon of yours, seeing how purposefully confusing the first episode was.

Other than that, my workload really limits my time to watch anime. >:U I need to fix that this weekend.

Also, Medaka Box manga has become so meta. In a way, even more meta than Bakuman.

Oh don't worry, there are plenty of opportunities to re-watch that first episode as you proceed further into the series. Try immediately after ep 9. Reading this thing will also help get some of its references.

I still liked Penguindrum better when it was called Utena.

You are thinking of Star Driver.

Considering Penguindrum and Utena are made by the same person and Penguindrum borrows heavily from Utena...

"Considering"? That is horrible grounds for that remark. Utena and Star Driver has the same producer, and they've got all the repetitive battle scenes down along with the same theme song pattern. That's almost a full set episodic motif borrowing as far as that is concerned. Other than that:

School setting, check
Evil organization performing ritualitic battle with protagonist in [rainbow]style[/rainbow], check
The whole "I think you are better with piano than a kendo stick" schtick, check

I mean really, if anything is said to be "better when it's called Utena" and "borrows heavily from Utena", it's Star Driver. >=/

The thing Penguindrum seem to "borrow" from might be Night on the Galactic Railroad, and even that's properly executed into its references. So far the only Utena element I see are the lesbians. How is that "borrowing heavily"? Are you insinuating that a IKUHARA anime would not have lesbians?! You make me sick D<

"Spoilers for Utena and Penguindrum"

Considering that both Utena and Penguindrum rely heavily on symbolism (actually this is really prevalent in Star Driver too), you have to look past the surface to really discover the similarities between the two.

Well, that's one way to go about it. But that's not a defense of what you said.

Yes, there are symbolism everywhere, the having of "symbolism" isn't any similarity past the surface. That is in fact the most blatant form of surface analysis. The having of symbolism does not make the same or even similar symbolism, and certainly does not defend the accusation of "borrows heavily".

Utena and Penguindrum

If you are going to take all that. And generalizng them into "having symbolism", "gets darker", and "similar character relational dynamics", then I can grant only a very minimal level of similarity there. Instead of looking at the more intricate aspects on how each character unfold, you decided to basically generalize them as much as possible until they appear similar. And to make matters worse, you are calling THAT "looking past the surface"?

You guys are so silly with your in-depth anime analysis and spoiler tags.

Not that it's a bad thing, but I unfortunately took a step back to observe this.

Penguindrum is kind of an annoying word when you type it out numerous times in quick succession

...Did you REALLY go to bed after having that discussion and then come back to write that tl;dr, Miral? ಠ_ಠ

Well then. Tune in tomorrow, when I explain the various nuances and plot similarities between Madoka and the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

It was like 5 am and I was tired. Plus I would be disrespecting Tract if he took the time to type something out and I couldn't even respond to it.

Well I for one appreciate the time you took. ^^

Hasty generalization applies here, I did not intend for saying that Utena and Penguindrum are completely unalike, nor did I say that. But remember what you had said, "I liked Penguindrum better when it was called Utena", and that "Penguindrum borrows heavy from Utena". I'm taking those two points as the beginning of your arguments, so unless you can make it so your arguments will defend these two claims, or at the the exegetical components of the claims, your arguments do not hold. If you wish to actually bring relevant arguments in here, those are what you must do, not simply proving what I never denied about any form of alikeness between Utena and Penguindrum, but prove in a way that surpasses Star Driver.

Remember what your claims were before you defend them, there's a difference between that and remembering the most conveniently-defended claim regardless of whether it was an issue you wrought.

And no, saying "It's hard to say exactly how much Penguindrum will end up like Utena, since we're only a little over halfway through the show" isn't a leeway you are allowed to turn to at this point. If you said that at the beginning, yes, I can grant you that, it also eliminates the need for me to do anything at all. But that's not what you did. If you are here to defend yourself, know that what is actually being challenged, "I liked penguindrum better when it was called Utena", if you wish to change that statement, then change it. If you don't do that before your providing defense, I'll assume, quite fairly, that's what you are defending, and that will be one defense that won't actually work.

"Gosh, I must crush it soon."

That's all of which I will grant, keep in mind what you actually toss on the table before formulating arguments to defend them. I haven't accused them of being completely unalike, if that's the rationale for an argument, don't bother make it.
