FlipFlap 11 the degree of Salt's involvement was a shockingly abrupt development and I didn't care for it at allllll. Like, who is this guy and how is he suddenly so easily part of Mimi and Papika's inner circle?
??? Spoiler: click to toggle Papikana met Mimi and Salt on the same day. They were very obviously set up as a group of three friends. Papikana and Mimi go to PI together, Salt researches stuff with them, they hang out, and Salt makes a baby with Mimi. They have some rough patches but in the end they try to support each other, although it doesn't work out.
Spoiler: click to toggle I get that, yeah. I also think I didn't factor in what the previous episode had revealed when I watched Ep 11 (specifically when we see the much younger version of him being brought through the labs), so maybe that's why it seemed so sudden to me. I'll give both 10 and 11 a rewatch for sure.
It's not that I literally don't know who he is, how he met them and how he got so involved - I just thought it was so sudden and weird that he did, and to that extent. So it might be more of a storytelling issue? It also might be because I've been so focused on what's been happening with Cocona/Papika and their possible connections to Mimi that I wound up blindsided by it.
I guess I'm still trying to pin down exactly why my gut reaction was so negative. :U
But yeah, lmao, I've been thinking about this all day

Hoping to be witness to this when it happens. 8D
A friend recently recommended Samurai Champloo to me, so I might try it out over the break. Has anyone watched it/can support the recommendation? It's very good.
The only thing you really need to know going into the series is that it's mostly episodic and most arcs usually dont last for more than two episodes. I don't know if that's a deal breaker for you, but I know people who dislike episodic stuff.

flifla 11 Well, I think part of the issue might be is that Salt has literally been a nonfactor almost the entire series, has hardly had a conversation with anyone, and so on... so we haven't been given much reason to be invested or surprised by this revelation about his character. It's very back-ended. It is almost p Evangelion structure-wise, in that it has a rather episodic first half that stays relaaaaatively into its genre conventions/is more non-serious, and then suddenly goes mach 10 into the psychoanalytic, haha. Or maybe I still can't shake that Salt = Gendo thing, I mean their arcs and relations to the other characters are pretty much the same spoilers for Evangelion I mean, they're both driven by/using their wife for science, keep manufacturing their resurrection, their wife's corpse/soul is the animating agent by which their child is able to very reluctantly fight, and they push their child to fight all the time while being ~mysterious~/a hard-ass from an elevated desk while they fight

Just finished ep 56 of DBS. Shit's getting intense. Loving this arc so far. We got Gods, mysteries, time travel, actual philosophical discussions about justice, good and evil, and even a little romance plot between Trunks and Mai. Am I even watching Dragon Ball right now?
Also, the King of All. Jesus. What do you even do when the literal God of everything wants to play with you and have you has a friend. But of course, only a childlike mind like Goku could understand another childlike mind like King of All.
FILTHY NINGEN!
as for rereading the manga I'm at the end of the first Vegeta fight. Forgot how brutal that shit was.

Flip Flappers 12 Flip Flap crashed and burned for me. Such a shame. =[
But it's still nice to have something to watch as it's airing, if only for the anticipation. And some aspects are so good (animation in the early eps, music, Pure Illusion). I just feel it hasn't lived up to the promise of its first few episodes and just turned into some generic magical girl thing with a dash of symbolism. I think maybe I expect too much?
...I say that, but those outfits at the end were 2cool

Don't be silly
If I wanted to watch a masterpiece I wouldn't watch anime
Anyway now that I've actually seen the episode myself
There are some minor nitpicks I can make here and there, but overall, DiU was an excellent adaptation that, for the most part, did a fantastic job of utilizing the medium to it's fullest. From stylish, vibrant colors to excellent use of the OST to enhance the tension and action of key moments, to even rearranging a few chapters to be in chronological order so that they flowed better in the animated format, it was a great enhancement to the manga's story. Obviously, in particular any time THE WORLD showed up it greatly benefited from being animated for reasons that are very much obvious.
Last episode spoiler This is secretly just a post to squee about Stardust Crusaders playing for STAR PLATINUM: THE WORLD
Like omg omg omg that was so perfect
ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORA So yeah JoJo's slice of life isn't perfect but it's pretty damn great
Okay I'm done being positive
What do I disapprove of next

flifla 12 lol yeah, I mean... it was always pretty straightforward, but it's kinda turned into a super oversimplified thing and literally just boiled the entire series down into a single easily-digestable episode. Like, I think if I enjoyed the whole thing of "Cocona's passivity" more I might view it more as a 'summary,' but sometimes I think when something is neatly summarized like that it makes things feel a bit too artificial or shoehorned in. Or... superficial? Like all the characters, all the conflicts just boil down to that?
There's still some visual elements that were good (muscle-Bu was incredible), and Yayaka transforming (if only to ultimately job) was nice, and Papika getting mindscrewed was nightmare fuel (the drool omg no), but I think it's the writing/dialogue/oversimplification that divests me from it and just makes me want to snark. >.>

Started Flip Flappers finally, since you nerds keep talking about it.
Only finished episode 1.
Pretty sure this is a series I'm going to have to watch totally sober and concentrated, because I have no idea what the hell is happening right now.
