And the convenient "OH SHIT THERE'S A BOMB IN THE CAR GOTTA GO DEFUSE IT AND HEROICALLY CARRY OFF THE BOMB" literally spent all of the episode post-Betelgeuse meeting the witch lol'ing So much for all of Emilia's character and the whole "I wanted you to just treat me as a person" thing, and she's just thrown straight up on the pedestal also pretty sure that whole scene was a recycling of Rem and Subaru's morning discussion in the mansion of "wow I'm horrible I don't have any friends and I'm an oni/half-elf" "that's k I still support you no matter what" "okay wow I'm now happier than I've ever been" I said it before, but... for an author who allegedly hates self-inserts this show was probably the most egregious example of one I've seen in a long time

It's like they just wanted to throw in a happy end with Emilia crying to finish it off, not to mention it's hard to really care when she's been pretty much irrelevant for almost 20 episodes. Rem was similarly lol in episode 18 but they atleast showed us more of her as a character and love interest before that. I was pretty interested and invested in this show for roughly the first half, but then it literally became what it was trying to subvert. Finally started watching K-On!! s2, and it's strangely addicting. It's literally been years since I watched the first season but it feels like this one has more progression to it, while still being silly SoL shenanigans. Maybe it's just because I'm more anime trash now than I was then though.
