I'd definitely give it a watch. The ending is kind of disappointing, and there's lots of intentional camp, but unless you're Satty, you'll probably like it.

The characters are very eclectic, it pokes a lot of fun at anime in general, playing around with every cliche ever and making them awesome, and has a clever way of dealing with it's plot, in that it purposely hides it while teasing it out bit by bit via each character's backstory. YMMV on this; because it does so much, it's hard to pin it down to a specific genre, and some people complain it suffers from an identity crisis. Personally, the fact it did so much, and never over-doing it, made the anime for me. It's not perfect though; I prefer the first half to the second, and it leaves some annoying plot holes. But still fantastic to watch.
