And there's always the chance that Subaru learns very little from this and things turn out okay anyways, which would be a misstep imo.

He was transported there 18 years ago, lost an arm, and joined up with Priscilla. Supposedly he wins not through strength but through outwitting his opponents. (You know, like Subaru)
