I dropped Erased after one episode because I went to bed and then wasn't interested enough to watch more. Steins;Gate now.

Slowly going through Koyomimonogatari. It's ironic how completely opposite from the usual show this is. up to episode 4 I also watched the first two episodes of The Big O with Silvy, ep 1 in dub, ep 2 is sub. The dub was unbelievably awful so we flipped to sub after ep 1. The protag's try-hard hard-boiled proto-Christian Bale not!Batman was so cringe, and I spent most of the episode just laughing at him/wanting to punch him in the face that... yeah. The whole thing is not!Batman, plus random giant mechs. It's hard to take it seriously at all, but I assume it's just meant to be a "fun" show. The "muh singing android maid waifu" is particularly pls. We also checked out the first two episodes of Nagi no Asukara, which so far is basically The Little Mermaid, anime style. Nagi no Asukara, ep 2

Yeah, The Big O definitely seems like more of a fun and entertaining show to me as of now. It's definitely not what I expected considering what Chiaki J. Konaka's involvement in Lain and Texhnolyze is like. It's pretty far removed from the more minimalist approach to dialogue and psychological focus of those. If the Big O expands upon its premise of being set in a society where everyone has lost their memories it could get pretty interesting though. Personally, I really liked what I saw of Nagi no Asukara. I do feel like they jumped into the whole love triangle/square/wtf a little too soon since we've had no time to really grow attached to the characters but the setting is interesting and it has a good balance of fun SoL while still incorporating some more serious themes that will probably be emphasized more later in the series.
"Oh no, it has singing android waifus in maid outfits, I could never live with myself for liking something so low-brow" ...oh wait

Fished watching Dragon Ball Super, up until the end of the universe tournament anyhow. I guess 40-41 episodes is all that has been released up 'til now or that has been given english subtitles. Good stuff. I found the resurrection f arc was much, much better than the movie. And still a big fan of Beerus. |

Big O gets pretty 2deep4u later on, but at its core it's a show meant to be fun based on kaiju shows and super robot anime. The main thing about Big O is that the "mystery" isn't really something that's meant to be solved; it's mostly a backdrop to add flavor to the series. I love Big O but it's absolutely a style over substance series. |

Yeah, it seems like the main dish it serves up is ham and fun, I'll wait in anticipation for the show to blow my mind with 2deep4u symbolism though. It does have quite a mix of influences from both Japanese and Western media too, which is cool even if the Western influence pretty much culminates in becoming the Batman. Nagi no Asukara continues to be jam, starting to like Hikari more as we're seeing sides of him that aren't overprotective raging tsundere and Manaka is too adorable not to like. Really interested in seeing what impact the tensions between the 2 societies will have on the characters. needs more kneefish though

Big O is so bad, but it manages at least to be snarkable. So there's that. Definitely not the kind of anime I'd want to watch by myself, though. Nagi no Asukara continues to be really pretty as of ep 6, and also really dramatic, but I think it suits the atmosphere and colouration. Also it's 2real for middle school, except guys and girls talk to each other. That's not realistic. B) |
