Anyways, most of my other favorite shows that you haven't watched are pretty slow or s'lifey, namely Hourou Musuko, Haibane Renmei, Euphonium, and Mushishi. All these I'd heartily recommend if you're in the mood for them.

you consistently rate all that ufotable/Urobochi junk higher than i do so maybe you'll get a kick out of Death Parade and Parasyte.

There's Samurai Flamenco if you're into a good ol' grounded superhero story like Madoka was.

And I know you had a bad first impression when it came to Gankutsuou but I still like it after a recent rewatch.

I'm trying to figure out how to parse this sentence.

Madoka is definitely a good ol' grounded mahou shoujo story.

Mahou shoujo is basically a subdivision within the superhero genre, so I can agree with that categorization, but I'm not sure what 'grounded' means for each one there.
I watched ep 1 of Euphonium and I think the first 3 eps of Mushishi, but thanks for the recommendations anyway! It's definitely something I need to be in the mood for.

Magical girls are definitely a type of superhero, but I can't tell what the degree of irony is there.

That's the best kind of irony.

Isn't Noragami Aragato the second season?

Unless this is a case like Psycho Pass where s1 is good and s2 sucks it's not "airing anime's" fault you decided to keep watching it if you hated the first season.

I was actually gonna mention watching Haibane Renmei next anyways since someone threw it on my hard drive, it seems like the kind of show we'd both find interesting even if Satty isn't a big SoL fan. I've been meaning to watch Parasyte as well, I'd imagine Saturos wouldn't be as into it but I also thought he wouldn't be into Bakemonogatari so god knows.

Also, Euphonium is my jam so he should watch it.

and at the time we watched Noragami we thought it was a show that needed a second season to flesh out its characters more since it introduces a lot in the first season. The thing is, the second season doesn't really deliver. It's not so much a case of pushing the blame on "airing anime" as it is just waiting for something to air and hearing what the general opinion is before watching it.

There's a lot of shows that air every season so I'd rather hear about which ones were good afterwards instead of going in blind and just being disappointed by promising shows or overlooking ones that have a weak premise and end up great.

Yeah, almost everything that happened in S2, especially with the main trio, were a rehash of things in S1. The villain was kind of awful, the tension was dumb, and the "cliffhanger" plot twist probably reached stratospheric levels of stupidity.
Noragami S1 was like, Gintama silly with some lame "fight scenes" here and there, but it really didn't deliver on the promise. And then S2 was basically S1 without the comedy, so it was just overwrought shounen drama and 2D characters.

awwww yeah, it's definitely a fun watch. Entertaining as hell but not without a solid main cast as well.

Started watching White Album 2 earlier, enjoying the characters so far, especially Setsuna. Unfortunately didn't realize until now that the majority of the story isn't covered by the anime. I like that the rest of the story takes place a few years after high school, but that probably just sets in stone that it won't get adapted any further, lel.

Basically everything I know about White Album 2 is related to the fact that it'll never be fully adapted.

So probably.

You should definitely pick Monogatari back up if you left off at Neko, Simple. Nekomonogatari Kuro might've been the last lowpoint I can remember, and then generally it was mostly uphill from there - apart from a couple of single-scene backslides into fanservice here and there, but yeah, that sounds pretty continous from what I was expecting. Maybe not the minimal dialogue and freedom from Araragi monologues (though those are ofc absent entirely when he's not the narrator), but apart from that, I'm glad it was better than what you expected from the old Monogatari (but sorry to hear it wasn't as good as you expected).

Excuse me while I simmer in jealousy 5ever.

Haibane Renmei is Cormac McCarthy af in its titling
also these structures are weird but great, plotwise

>ask for pancakes
>get bagels/donuts

THERE IS NO JUSTICE
also Haibane is dark souls af, with all the FORESHADOWING and crows
and the Haibane Renmei proper

The characters are great though, as is the dialogue. It feels very authentic/Japanese. The super early mornings, getting hammered while working, etc.

The scenery/OST is fantastic, too.

haibane renmei speculation

Berserk has been dethroned as the Dark Souls of anime.

but yeah, Haibane Renmei is indeed great. Nice laid back slice of life tone with organic characters but all this foreshadowing and mystery to their society gives me an impression of a much darker overarching story.

The music is my jam too.
