I am so impressed with Shinsekai Yori so far. It's getting to the point where I'm getting anxious about them screwing it up, because I'll be a lot more disappointed and buttmad than I would have been otherwise. Only a third of the way through, so there's so much ways for it to go wrong. x_x ep 8 I'm glad we're finally out of the queerrat plotline - it was good, and it established a lot of things, and built some good things without it being a catastrophically dangerous threat/leaving time for things to build up.
I'm also reaaaally liking Saki as a protagonist. She has an excellent combination of traits that drive the plot and complexities to make her interesting. She's a bit of a rulebreaker and an independent thinker (what she did in the past, the copycat, but also restoring the Canti and so on), but also cautious enough to be the voice of reason to Satoru and some of the others.
And after puberty, the episode: we also see Saki caught between her longing and also a bit of spite. Enough to be sympathetic, but also enough of a jerk (as teenagers are) to not just be miss perfect. Her spying on Shun and Satoru, then running to redhead girl (who, as we know the whole time, will ultimately be responsible for the death of thousands) for comfort - and then, in a displacement of her jealousy over Shun, taunting Mamoru over his longing for redhead girl.
On that note, I also really like how this episode represents teenage sexuality. It's not particularly voyeuristic, and a lot of the light colouration and soft shading kind of emphasizes the innocence/curiosity of it. My reaction was not "oh damn that's hot" but "awwww that's adorable" or thinking "sasuga teenagers." I also like how "love" through the bonobo thing is set up as an alternative to war, but also as a coping mechanism that Saki herself resists. Even as she's drawn to it, her rebellious streak hates feeling manipulated ("We are not monkeys"), but her self-awareness also makes it so that she can't fully enjoy relationships without being aware of the escapism of it (if we assume that the later quote of it by the show in this episode comes up because Saki thought of it)
I also like the inclusion of homosexual relationships/bisexual characters, but I'm a bit skeptical of it - I know they can sometimes be regarded in Japanese culture generally as a teenage experimentation thing that they're expected to outgrow, so I'm curious to see how the show will develop that.
I like how Shun's angst over breaking up with Satoru affected his Cantus enough to set off alarm bells in a routine visit and basically get him/vanished. Also Shun turning his egg into a monster/fiend is hoooo >implications
But yeah, strong cast, great world, animation and music are fantastic, please don't screw this up
also the acid trip at the part of ep 6 had me lol'ing
this coupled with Madoka and so on is going to convince me that giving kids in puberty magic is a Bad Idea
shinsekai yori Saki is a really strong protagonist, I remember that being something in particular I really liked. If I remember right, isn't she one of the ones who questions or doubts the common warnings and stories of the queerrats offered by her elders? I suppose it would fit her rebellious nature; the other ones seem content to just listen and obey.
The change in time as the story progress helps to continue to give changing and interesting perspective into the characters, and give some more credibility for future events. I think past and future are all tied together pretty well.
Also, I thought Shun broke up with Satoru only because that were taking place within him? Like he seemed like he had awareness of some growing darkness within him. This might be a translation thing on my end - I watched the dub because I'm a filthy gaijin, I'm guessing you're watching it in Japanese. It's been so long since I watched it and I can't remember things as well, perhaps I owe it another viewing!

Haven't seen an anime in a long time. My boyfriend has been nagging me for a while now about this Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi thing this season, and I decided to check it out in spite of his highly questionable taste.
And...I'm pleasantly surprised. I am reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally enjoying this. Is anyone else following this this season?

HyrulianJedi actually looks it up
Oh, hey, that actually sounds like it could be cool. Has a pretty high rating too - though on MAL, I question that.

BokuMachi has the rare quality of being very accessible and hype-heavy while also actually being good and taking advantage of all the things an anime can do to be good.

Wait till you see the ending! That show is such a roller coaster ride. It's very good at making you want to find out what happens next at every turn.
So, today I watched all of what's out for GATE. Gotta say, I'm liking it. I'm not sure how well I'll ajust to one episode a week from now on though. Probably should'a waited, but it's too late now! Maybe I'll go watch One Punch Man now...

Just finished episode 8 of Steins;Gate. Things are really kicking off now. I'm really liking this lighthearted yet weird and mysterious atmosphere. Can't wait to see how complex it might eventually become.

It's a pretty fun ride IMO.
Both are great thoguh.

So I watched through all of One Punch Man today. Pretty good. I see why people hype it so much. Personally, I didn't find the main joke (always one punch) all that funny, but I was quite entertained by all the little funny things spread throughout the episodes. Also, Mumen rider, best hero of them all.

Oh, does any of the events in the VN affect SG? Any characters from it that appears in SG? There's a lot of references that are cool when you pick up on them, but nothing important.
Been watching Precure. Finished Smile, Suite, caught up on Gopri and am currently watching Heartcatch and Fresh. Why is Moonlight so perfect?
