Spoilers for NGE plus End of Evangelion The last 2 episodes give context for The End of Evangelion since it's part of the Human Instrumentality Project. The psychological struggles dealt with in those last 2 episodes(Shinji in particular) is what makes the final events of the End of Evangelion possible, so I think it's necessary to watch the last 2 episodes before the End of Evangelion for it to really make sense. but as KitN mentioned... End of Evangelion still doesn't make much sense even with that, gotta get on Anno's level.
