The problem with K-On! is that there's absolutely nothing serious to it, it's literally just "cute girls doing cute things" with some gags thrown in

I was just going to reaction gif this whole entire conversation, but like, that's almost the entire point of the show.

I think Silvy was watching it more for the musician angle, hence why he was disappointed.

Cute girls doing cute things can include music, but apparently didn't.

Yeah, I decided to check out the series hoping it would put a decent amount of focus on music and have a serious side to it, even if it the majority of it was comedy and "cute girls doing cute things."

I watched it a few years ago and at the time I wasn't as into anime. I wasn't exposed to the series enough to know it was going to be pretty much Lucky Star with some j-pop insert songs here and there. Something tells me I would've enjoyed it more now than I did then, since I definitely go into series with less expectations now than I did then.

K-On!! was a very visible start to Kyo-Ani's high quality cinematography that you would later see from series such as Hyouka, Tamako Market/Love Story, and Euphonium. I've seen a lot of people on my Twitter feed enjoy that season based on the presentation alone, and just looking at screenshots I can see why.

This doesn't really excuse the actual plotlines of K-On and the lack of priority on music, but it's something I've noticed about the show and its fans over the years.

Yeah, there were some moments in Euphonium that I had to pause just to check out the scenery porn. In K-On's case, it's the kind of series that people wouldn't go into expecting that level of detail in the art and animation so I can see that being appealing in comparison with a lot of other SoL shows that focus more on comedy. Also it has good music for those who like j-pop, I can't deny that Mio is a pretty sweet bassist.

o bby, second season of this looks pretty sweet and hopefully it'll have a decent resolution to it since the first season kinda left us hanging, as you would expect considering the large cast size for what was a 1 season show.

Unfortunately I can't not hear Yato's voice as [radio edit]ing Araragi Koyomi after watching over 60 episodes of Bakemonogatari.

I only watched a couple of episodes of Your Lie in April and I don't think it was bad at all, I just found it too dramatic at the time. It's a show I'd like to check out more of regardless since I hear it gets really good later. I think it would be unfair to judge a series like that as "bad" based on the first couple of episodes anyways.

Maybe it's just really good? The more likely answer is that because it's so polarizing, the people who couldn't stand the show couldn't make it far enough to actually have their score affect the overall one.

Oh wait, you said you hate SoL shows that aren't purely comedy, didn't you? kek, atleast it's not LL at 13th highest

Your Lie in April (I usually see it called Kimiuso) hit an emotional note with most people, especially the MAL demographic, because it has feels. I was very averse to it at first because of how it looked to resolve the MC's internal conflict and a sizable backlash formed in my own circles about the show's supposed condoning of domestic abuse for the sake of being a better musician. As the story developed, I don't think it completely justifies its faults but it all culminates to a very satisfying finale. Enough to keep me at least lukewarm about the show as a whole. Just try not to be invested in anyone not named Kousei and Kaori since they're the only two characters that matter in this anime. Everyone else basically exists as context for their character development.

But yes, the first half of the show is polarizing as hell depending on how "problematic" you find the character actions. And also depending on how much you invest in the main two characters.

I actually don't know anything about the show beyond what simple said here, so I was just going off of the fact that with a few exceptions (such as Legend of the Galactic Heroes) the top ranked MAL shows are all really mainstream things of probably varying quality. Attack on Titan was pretty high on there a while ago, I dunno if it's still up there.

So since solbowz said it was bad I figured it was more like that than, say, FMA Brotherhood, which while I haven't seen it, I've heard nothing but good things about.

Speaking of things I haven't seen, I've heard Eva described as 2deep4u with unnecessary symbolism and a bunch of Christianity motifs just because they look cool, so that sounds disgustingly Saturos/10. Enjoy being a mainstream fuzzy little man-peachgot.

Good thing it ended up not being realized.

Don't worry, the cross-shaped explosions are already dum. Symbolism just because it looks cool is like my antithesis anyway. Symbolism that doesn't couple meaning with visuals isn't symbolism at all.

Also, I think Peo likes Your Lie in April, so it can't be thaat bad. At least, he's using a couple of their characters in Rumble.
