KitN pls
I finished reading Bokurano It was really good, but I felt the ending was going a bit full grimdark/grimderp. Just like happy endings can be really forced, I felt this ending was a bit forced and thrown together. The series always had a precarious flirtation with coincidences (that guy crushing his father, the teacher dating the girl's sister, Daichi's monster attacking the amusement park, that one girl who picked on the pilot having sex/being a hypocrite when Zearth calls on her, ofc using all 23 back-up pilots immediately before Kana is called, Captain Tanaka being Jun's mother (semi-believable since she actively sought that out), etcetc.
But the ending was just tooo much. The "professional assassin kills one of the pilots" might have worked earlier in the arc, but at this point there was no reason or hint that anything like that might've been coming, nor was it really dealt with and explored afterwards. It was basically just to artificially kill a character during a relatively happy moment as a means of exploiting drama.
And then during the "last mission," the pilots teleporting away once the shell was opened. Dung Beetle goes on about how they wouldn't have been able to do that if the shell wasn't opened, but I'm pretty sure the last time that happened the shell wasn't opened -- the guy just ran out. And we see people/pilots coming and going from the shell all the time. So the justification for that was pretty flimsy, as well as no one telling Jun not to do it, and some convoluted "trap" just to ensure maximum edge.
As a result of that suspension of disbelief, Jun's whole "I now must personally kill every single human on this planet" had an element of narm to it (as visually awesome and terrifying as the shots of Zearth just pouring lasers was), especially all the dramatic close-ups on a child's backpack, a gundam toy, etc. I guess this possibility was brought up before, but it looks like the author couldn't resist going full edgelord.
And then after that, the additional "oh yeah, it's definitely just a natural process with no higher meaning or creator, just something the world whipped up itself." And you'd think that it would have "looped around" sometime within human history, or before that. And if it does "loop around," and it's been going as a natural process in the universe, does that mean there were like, ancient dinosaurs derping around in Zearth?
Basically, I felt the ending was really ham-fistedly grimdark, and that it raised all sorts of questions/broke suspension of disbelief trying to make things as "depressing" as possible. I did really like Machi and Jun going around to each family and following up on all the earlier arcs; that was a great way of providing a feeling of unity in the text and picking up all the previous plotthreads.
If it wasn't for the ending, I probably would've given it a 10/10, but the ending kind of soured things a bit, so I'm going with 9/10 as a rating. Still super good, though!
EDIT: I didn't really elaborate much on what I liked about it, since I talked about it on Skype a bit. But I found it an extremely well-written manga that handed its themes really well, establishing character quite strongly in a premise and structure that cast the most fundamentally human things against impending death. I think it shows something fundamentally human from a variety of angles, the good and the bad. From abusive relationships and rape and extortion, to parents and children reconciling and the beauty and wonder of living, it doesn't shy away from showing both sides of humanity.
My favourite arc was probably Takami Komoda's, but I also liked Daichi's, Kirie's, Aiko's, Machi's, and some of the others to varying degrees.
Some of my favourite "shots" and stylisms were Daichi!Zearth carrying the enemy the same way as he carried the 20 kg of rice earlier (maybe?), and the entirety of Komoda's piano playing scene. There was some pretty great mangawork overall, and I liked the dialogue. I really liked the structure and its series of emotional climaxes in each arc, while slowly developing the full story and "reason" beyond everything.
Even if the "quantum physics" was more like "quantum pls."

Yuriphonium is p good, although you probably wouldn't like it since it's closer on the spectrum to Love Live than your high brow yuri shows.
Not sure what I'll watch for summer outside of Symphogear, Ushio to Tora seems interesting enough to check out and I'll keep an ear out for any others.

So Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, the manga, came out of nowhere this week with like four updates in a week. But all the manga has been officially translated and is now past that, so I should just read the officials now. But >updates >people scanslating announce they're done their backlog, so no more >ends on a huge cliffhanger
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I see what you did there

(I may have intentionally misled you all)
(Ok I did intentionally mislead you all)
Jurassic World apparently doesn't open in Japan until August. Love Live still made more money in its first weekend in Japan than Mad Max did in its first weekend, though.

To Love-Ru Darkness season 2 obviously. pls, judging from what little I read of the manga it really isn't my cup of tea although I will admit GOLDEN DARKNESS is pretty cute.
Love Live for life, too bad the movie won't be anywhere near where I live when it comes overseas though, damn Canada and its low population.
