holy shit, just watched bakemonogatari ep 8
that was probably one of the most graphic scenes I've ever seen in an anime. getting literally kicked through the stomach, then swung around by the large intestine until it snaps and you fly into a wall.
[radio edit]ing ouch.
intestines should not be seen.
this anime is gud

I watched Bakemonogatari ep 9 and holy shit, so much pls.
Shaft referencing the Gaijin 4koma mollified me somewhat, though.

nah, not a fan of the director, and from all accounts yuri bears sounds even more pls/worse than Penguindrum. >_> I'm glad you're enjoying it, though. I just don't think it'd be my cup of tea.
Of course, I once said that about bakemonogatari. <_<
Bakemonogatari ep 12 That episode was just absolutely fantastic. It managed to combine a lot of intense pathos with what was probably the most hilarious thing I've seen in a long while.
The entire car ride scene with Araragi and Senjou with her dad right there had me in stitches. Partially because it was just genuinely hilarious, Senjou is an amazing character, and also because I recognized that shit and I've soooo been in those kind of situations before. I admire Senjou's deviousness. I loooove deviousness. And wit. I was literally wooping with laughter during that scene.
And the scene between Senjou's father and Araragi was super touching. Especially because I see and I hear stories about that kind of workaholic family a lot. And then the scene with Senjou and Araragi in the woods was gorgeous. Both animation-wise (dat sky, dat shot of Senjou "leading through the trees) and in terms of the SFX used, and also character-wise. Araragi being totally uninhibited and freely talking about his feelings, Senjou still being endearingly analytical, and generally just such a perfectly idyllic moment. And that's such a romantic first kiss, and I'm glad they didn't show it. For all its pls, Shaft still does know when to hold back and seriously tell a story. I just wish they did it more often.
Of course, there's still a lot more plot left to go in this, and this relationship peaked way too early. Some of the flashcards were even Araragi ruminating about how once they "consummated," he'd have no cards left to play, and Senjou would undoubtedly leave him. The presence of Hanekawa is also troubling, and doubly so because this episode came in the middle of a Hanekawa arc. If it's just setting up that ideal romance only to shatter it apart from romantic drama I'll be very sad and somewhat displeased.
Uuuuuugh that romance though, and dat laughing. muh heartstrings and muh cheeks both hurt

Uuuuuugh that romance though, and dat laughing. muh heartstrings and muh cheeks both hurt Well you hadn't seen/read any of Nisio's other works beforehand so it's a little different. Judging from the first 2 episodes of yuribears, if you didn't like Penguindrum, it's probably not the show for you even moreso. Complete with moments like a bear licking the ass of another bear or bear girls licking the reproductive system of a lily that's coming out of a naked girl, don't know if that sounds appealing to you. It seems like it does a lot at once, trying to be deep, serious, cute, erotic, and funny, but it really just ends up being funny and that's about it to me.
Bakemonogatari ep 12 That was probably my favourite scene in the show, was waiting for you to get to it. Senjougahara being like "oh, you want to speak to my father?" when Araragi addresses her by her surname is hilarious. The whole scene with them under the stars is genuinely beautiful, even if it does come across as bittersweet considering it's in Hanekawa's arc. With Hanekawa being presented more and more as a love interest instead of just a person Araragi admires, it's quite a different situation compared to the other 3 girls. A love triangle involving a possessive girl like Senjougahara does not bode well for anyone too.
Nisemonogatari ep 7 Best episode so far, the fight between Koyomi and Karen was so badass and reminiscent of over the top shounen fight scenes. Karen wanting to fight him ties in well with Tsukihi saying that "fighting can just be another form of communication" and Koyomi resolves it in the way you'd expect him to. I'm pretty sure that hug between them at the end of the fight was the most adorable thing I've seen in a while, felt very sincere. Then Koyomi has to joke around at the end "Just don't fall in love with me, that would be incestuous." Ofcourse, whether or not he's joking here is a pretty blurred line when that toothbrush scene is coming up soon I think, but let's just pretend that doesn't happen, for the sake of the moment.
I expected Senjougahara to kick that smug face off of Kaiki and it probably would have felt more "satisfying" but I'm happy with the direction they took it in. Resolving things through words fit his character better since he wasn't the type to throw punches, and his fire-wreathe bee didn't actually threaten Karen's life anyways. An interesting scene that serves to release Senjougahara from her attachment to the past through what Kaiki says as well.
...and ofcourse that request is what I thought it was, l-lewd. rofl'd at Araragi saying "are you a con artist too?" I'm glad they didn't feel the need to show a sex scene, implications work perfectly fine with that sort of thing and I even find them more tasteful since it focuses on the emotional aspect of their romance over the physical. There's a lot of things that could learn from this in that regard.
.......and they have to throw in some random shot of the Araragi sisters sleeping together, nude. SHAFT PLS

Finished Bakemonogatari The pls definitely doesn't stop.
Hanekawa is still shit. I was really kind of worried with the show at the whole "you think two months of lovesickness can't equal ten years of domestic abuse?" to which is like Really? You're really going to do that? I feel like that's not an analogy you get to make unless you're speaking from experience re: domestic abuse. Maybe Nisio is, in which case ok, but I feel like that's super disrespectful to be like "Yeah, all that shit you felt, it's basically of equal suffering to two months of a high school crush. Too bad, huh?"
That being said, I was really glad that Araragi stood his ground and defended his love for Senjougahara. They're just too cute together, and imo, I think Hanekawa fell in love for all the wrong reasons. It's basically like "Araragi is mystery, Araragi is exciting things that will take away from my life, Araragi is the one who saved me." Though Senjou also uses the prince charming line/image, it's also in the context of her realization early on (indeed, before she confesses) that Araragi didn't save her in particular, he's just that kind of person. And I think you see that association again by her trusting Araragi enough to go off on his own to save Hanekawa. Because he's just that kind of person, and he'll do things his way, while she does things hers.
Oshino moving on was pretty cool, too, and I think they transitioned into that next structure pretty well.
Incidentally, is there an anime before Bakemonogatari, or were the flashback-to-the-vampire sequences just scripted specifically for that?
Ending was kind of cheesy, but overall my impression is like...
Angel Beats but better, Clannad with the filler removed (and filled with pls, alas), and tighter storywriting. And of course, Shaft's animation was top-notch.
Flashing frames of the light novel like that is a great way to do infodumping without interfering with the flow of the show, and it's an interesting metatextual approach as well. It'd be hell if I was watching it without a pause button, though. And I love that they included citations and the typeface presented in.
All in all, a pretty damn good show, definitely weighed down by the fanservice, but I think the separation between fanservice and the more serious elements makes it a bit more palatable.

There's an OVA/movie that takes place before Bakemonogatari, but IIRC it's been stuck in development hell for years and will possibly never get released.
And just so you know, the fanservice gets heavier. TOOTHBRUSH SCENE!

Is this even a question? Well he could also like the scene where Araragi wipes the sweat of his sister's bare body, the scene where he gets chained up by his girlfriend or the scene where he has a 10 minute conversation with a certain character, both stark naked in the bathroom. It's not just about the toothbrush ya know.
