True Name: simplechild	I try not to remember the first quarter of TTGL because it's not wholly reflective of where the story goes or how the pacing is set up. Episodes 8-15 were fine, 17-20 could make or break you depending on what you wanted out of the show, and then the rest is just fsdgadfdasdfafgasdfasdg wow awesome That last part is really all there is to remember about this show.

I did not really understand the draw of the series. I dunno, maybe it's just that I'm not really into mecha? I suppose also that I suffered backlash, since back when I was made to watch it (I didn't actually go to watch it on my own; someone I know rl essentially thrust it on me) it was all over the internet and I was in a period of my life where anything that was popular was somehow inherently bad. Due to all that, I never really gave it a fair shot, I suppose. That ultimately means I don't really have much legitimate criticism to lob at the show - and if I had any, I'm sure it's been enumerated far more eloquently than I could ever care to. What it comes down to is that the show was essentially dragged down for me from the start, but having seen it from that viewpoint once, I don't believe going back to it with a fresh mind will change my opinion any. Kamina seemed... overblown and unfunny; he's quote-tastic and memetic, but he felt incredibly eh to me. the protagonist, whose name I cannot recall, was incredibly boring to me; I cannot recall why. The girl - Yoko? - felt pointless? I don't know what she brought to the show, but I didn't see it. So, there you go. It might be great, in the end. But even Simple admits that more than half of the show is either bad or not great - in his words, the bulk of the story is a make or break it point, depending on what you want from the show. And I didn't feel that the ending sufficiently made up for what I felt to be a lacking show. tl;dr OPINIONS MANG.

Member #1,237 Joined: September 17, 2014 True Name: Kitten	No but Ulta is right, the characters are boring and stereotypical as [radio edit], Kamina was irritating, Simon (yeah I had to google it don't worry you're not alone) a bitch and Yoko is there for obvious reasons - the show needed boobs somewhere. The first part has a lot of boring moments. Do you like over the top colorful action and ridiculous, hype moments and crazy mecha fights in space? Then you're probably going to love it anyway. I can't give you a reason why I liked it beyond me liking ridiculous shit. If I decide to watch some more heavy stuff I'm going to need some ridiculous shit on the side. It's like a perfect medium cooked fillet of beef with good wine on the side.

Second episode of Fafner was good, a lot more action than the first and looks like things might get interesting with the characters they introduced. Opening theme is weird, not bad but it can't top Shangri-La. Spoilers for Fafner Looks like Mark Nicht is going to be in this as well as Mark Sein, the hype is real for an ultimate showdown, better not disappoint.

Bakemonogatari ep 5 The "twist" with Mayoi was pretty cool, even if it was accompanied by super pls. I'm also tentatively on board with Senjougahara and Araragi super awkwardly working out their relationship and interaction. I was going to shoot myself after "I love you" (but lol'd at Mayoi's deadpan "Omedetou gozaimasu." in response). It does risk the pls of "guy saves girls, guy wins girl," but at least it's not automatically so here. It's more like "I am open to the possibility of liking you." Sooo... I'm skeptical, but willing to be persuaded into shipping it. Some really sweet (and I mean that as in, cute, not awesome) animation on SHAFT's part this episode, between the shots of Senjou in the sun and in portrait-like style, and Mayoi "passing on" (except not). The structure so far kind of reminds me of Clannad or Angel Beats with a series of "problems" to be solved within a few episodes, with an emotional climax at the end of each one. Fanservice definitely weighing it down from being as good as it could be, though.

You just know whenever Mark Sein first launches it's going to be really dramatic. Yeah, I think the better animation really makes the Festum look more threatening, those eyes look creepy as hell. The Festum possessing intelligence and being able to pull some tricks out of their own sleeves really makes them more threatening than just "holy shit that thing is big". The one making "clones" of itself was legit, it's just like my RPG boss battles. Even though we got this alliance going on, it's looking pretty tense and we'll probably see some differences in goals dividing them later on in the series. Spoiler: click to toggle Especially since they looked pretty suspicious towards the end of the episode. The one Festum that was huge not attacking or anything is interesting, looks like it was just there to observe more than anything. They better not tease us for too long with Mark Sein, they already did enough with Kanon stopping Kazuki in this episode. GET IN THE ROBOT KAZUKI
