In addition, should you care about that sort of thing, iirc, Brotherhood follows the original Manga's plot more closely than the original. Both are very good though. I think the original's biggest issue with pacing comes from the same reason most long runners have issues with pacing; it was meant to not get ahead of the mangos it originated from. It got better when they abandoned that, though that's just my interpretation.
